Up to one in every five kids in the U.S. is obese. This statistic does not look like it is going to slowdown anytime soon. Even though children are at a less risk of developing any sort of diseases than adults, but overweight kids are at a higher risk of becoming overweight adolescents, which then places them at the risk of developing a chronic disease like diabetes or any kind of heart disease in the future.

Children may become obese for tons of different reasons. The most common of all these reasons is genetics, unhealthy eating patterns, and physical activity. It is only in rare cases that being overweight may lead to hormonal problems. Here are some of the ways you can help your kid become healthier.

Be the Role Model

The only way you can instill good habits in your kids if you showcase them all the time they are around you. You should play with them in the park, take them swimming when you are free, and do every other activity that shows your kid that being active is fun.

You can set a great example by taking a bike ride or going for a walk instead of simply surfing the internet or watching T.V. Plus, it’s a neat way to spend some quality time together.

Stick to Small Portions

Don’t feed your kid oversized portions. There is little official guidance on how much food children need, but the fact of the matter is that kids cannot simply gobble down food the way adults can. A good idea would be plate food asking them how much they want to eat, and then only adding more if they ask for seconds. Also, avoid using adult sized plates for kids, it encourages overeating when they observe other people piling theirs with food.

 Let Them Eat Healthy Meals

Children must consume five or more portions of veggies and fruits every day. These are great sources of minerals and vitamins. Almost all the fruits count as your child’s five a day. A better idea is to go with Juice Plus+, especially if you have too much on your plate and trying to balance out a busy lifestyle. The tablets are a great way to incorporate more vegetables and fruits in your daily diet, and they give the right amount too.

More Sleep and Less Screen Time

Instill good habits in your kids. Along with the advice that you give them for moving more, you should also tell them to cut down the time that they spend lying down or simply sitting down and staring at a screen. This makes it easier for them to put on weight. No one can tell how much is too much, but all experts talk about how children should not watch more than a couple of hours of TV. This goes for other inactive pastimes like surfing social media platforms as well.
