Having reflux time to time can interrupt your daily work. On the other hand, if you can change your lifestyle and wrong eating habits, you will be able to treat the acid reflux naturally. It is important to remember Acid reflux is a condition that can affect each person differently. Its treatment involves a step-wise approach with proper guidelines that will surely reduce the symptoms and severity of acid reflux.
The following recommendations diet may provide relief from the condition of acid reflux –

• The first step in reducing acid reflux is often to limit the foods that set off reflux. These ‘’trigger foods’’ that differ from person to person but often include chocolate, coffee, fried food, peppermint, spicy foods, carbonated beverages, etc.
• Do not lie down for at least two hours after a meal or after drinking acidic beverages, like soda or other caffeinated beverages. This can help to prevent stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus.
• Keep your head elevated while you sleep.
• Reduce excess weight around the midsection. This can ease pressure on the stomach. Such pressure can force some stomach contents back up the esophagus.
• Drink lots of water that could help to balance your system.
• Eat smaller and more frequent meals each day instead of a few large meals. This promotes digestion and can aid in preventing heartburn.
• Quit smoking – Smoking plays a major role in increasing the production of stomach acid and reduces the function of the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that keeps acid and other stomach content from re-entering the esophagus. Smoking can also decrease the amount of saliva, which neutralizes the acid produced by the body.
• Avoid foods that trigger gas. It is seen that diet influences flatulence and avoiding certain food as well as maintaining a healthy microbiota in the gut could be helpful.
• Eat and drink slowly as there is a direct co-relation between chewing foods and digestive health.
• Excess weight can potentially distort esophageal valve anatomy and subsequently cause acid reflux.
• Too much pressure can squeeze your stomach which can increase your GERD related symptoms. You can reduce the pressure by maintaining a healthy weight, wearing loose-fitting clothes.
• Fruits such as orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit have high acidic content which can irritate the digestive tract and worsen the condition, especially if consumed on an empty stomach.
