What is Acid Reflux syndrome?

Acid Reflux is an outcome of hyperacidity in the stomach. It occurs when our stomach starts producing excessive stomach acid in course of digestion of food.

There is a valve called lower esophageal sphincter which is located between the stomach and the oesophagus. The tissue of the sphincter is badly affected by the acidic content and as result; it gets loose leaving a gap between the stomach and the oesophagus.

 

The acidic food content then starts moving upwards through the gap into the oesophagus and in many cases, to the throat area. One can often have acidic sour burping and acidic regurgitation in the mouth which is quite an unpleasant experience.

 

There is a very unpleasant experience often having in the chest area and it is termed as Heartburn. And the disease altogether is called as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD.

The common symptoms of Acid Reflux and Heartburn

 

As it is already mentioned, in Acid Reflux the acidic food content moves upwards through the gap left by the lower esophageal sphincter into the oesophagus region and sometimes even up to the throat area. It results in a very unpleasant occurrence of acidic burping and sour acidic regurgitation inside the mouth of the patient.

 

One might also have a very unpleasant sensation in the chest area which is called heartburn. One also might have difficulties in swallowing food.

 

It can also be noticed that one is losing weight quite fast as the outcome of the disease.

How to overcome the syndrome?

One should go to bed early at night and rise early in the morning. To go for a morning walk is quite beneficial in overcoming hyperacidity syndrome.
