Thoughts about Skype Names becoming a part of a member's profile

I would love to see the ApSense community grow by adding Skype to the standard profile of a member.
This would encourage more activity among the established members and would certainly enable us to recruit even more new members.

Just a suggestion.....
Thoughts anyone???

Skype connectivity will help to recruit new members into ApSense By bing able to send the ApSense Networking brand name out into the Skype community. The more people within the Skype community that see ApSense members utilizing their websites as a marketing and recruiting tool, the more new members that we are bound to bring into ApSense.

Just another optional recruiting tool in our arsenal, so to speak! :-)
In addition, we have a lot of members here at ApSense that I am sure would enjoy having the option of communicating via Skype on occasion.

Just a suggestion that is open for discussion.

Not sure it would help a membership drive, but the ability to record SKYPE Id as a way to reach members would be useful.

The promotion on SKYPE would not hurt.

the promotion on skype would be ok PROVIDING that skype spam tool is not used.

Being able to request a skype contact may be ok but you get the idiots that are in your network and you are trying to contact to send helpful information blocking your requests for contact so not sure how it would go trying through skype.

For those who are very familiar with skype and have joined Apsense recently, it would be a good source of new members for us to invite. Some peeps are in skype groups and are able to discuss networking biz online like Apsense.

Skpe is one of the strongest tools of of communication in a marketers arsenal. It is one of the only tools providing an opportunity for a face-2-face meeting between contacts. As a business networking site, it would be good to have skype contact plugin integrated into the site. My facebook profile features a skype widget that shows my current status. Given that many people on apsense would like 2 have a chat with each other as well, something similar would be worthwhile.

I love Skype.
I cannot imagine being without it.
I like the idea of adding it to your profile. But if you did that I am sure others would want all of the rest IM added too.
And to me there is only one... SKYPE.
What more do you need?
But I am sure others wouldn't agree with that statement

From everything that has been posted so far...I believe the vote is positive for adding a Skype widget to the profile of an ApSense member. For those who have posted a response so far....Let's try to get more of our personal contacts to weigh in on this Skype proposal.. so that we have a larger sampling of the opinions and uses of Skype within the ApSense community.

It will be very interesting to see the various responses within our own community and if my guess is correct....It will be very positive for the addition of a Skype widget! :-)

Thanks to everyone who has participated so far...You're the best!

SKYPE is a great tool but for promotion wise and recruiting to Apsense there is a extreme risk of users not following the law and SPAMMING Skype. If added it would be a better feature with a button to click that says share Skype with so you can select who get's that info and who doesn't.

Yes...I agree with you Andy. Great idea to limit the sharing of ApSense information with only those that we already have in our Skype contacts, but I am also quite confident that we each have a lot of Skpe contacts that are not current members here at ApSense and just...think of the recruitment possibilities...hey? :-)
Not to mention, I could chat it up with some of my favorite fellow ApSense members that have added me as their friend/ contact. :-)

@vip so you propose sending the APSense ad only to the people on your skype contact ? If so then tell me this, how many of them have actually told you you can send ads to them? I hope you know that just because someone agrees to have you on their contact list that is not an automatic invitation to you to send them ads! This is applicable to ALL IM contacts and contacts here in APSense and any other program. The only place that sending ads to people is ok is through your mailing list that you have built using an auto responder set at double (confirmed) op in, or the programs specifically designed for mailing offers like safe lists etc.

Skype should be used to create / maintain friendship and to communicate with business associates, In order to teach someone something you need to communicate with them, Skype allows you to do this for FREE and should not be used to promote a business. I strongly believe you should create a friendship with a person and get to know there intrests in order to assess wether you should promote to them. I always use skype on a daily basis and would not be with out it. GREATY TOPIC by the way :)

Okay I guess I'll rain on the parade. I've got Skype and a couple of other IM services and I do not post them for public viewing. IM is great for communicating but that does not mean I yahoos I don't know cluttering up my Skype with constant requests to connect just so they can turn around and spam me with garbage I have no interest in.

Skype ID and all my other IM ID's are not for public consumption. If I want someone to have it, I will give it to them. And I only give it to people that I have taken the time to get to know. When I give it it's because I trust the person having it not to spam me and to use it for communication, not just to have another way to slam the spam.

So no I don't think Skype ID needs to be a part of our profiles. Several people here on APSense have my Skype ID. They have it because I gave it to them, not because it was displayed on my profile, which is as it should be.

I would love to be able to add my Skype ID here and I'm not the least bit worried about getting spammed, it's a single click to block anyone who tries it. The advantage of course would be better communication with those who are responsible enough to use it wisely.
