Wide Applications Of The Stranded Copper Wire

Like most of the copper wires and copper alloys stranded copper wire too is widely used in all major electrical applications.  The wire is as assortment of smaller wires. The wires are highly efficient and are very durable having long service life.  Another advantage with the wire is its feature of customization. It can be moulded as per the specific requirements of a client and is very strong yet flexible. It has more flexibility than the solid copper wire and is vastly applied in vehicles, electric circuit boards and electronic devices and in other applications wherever the wire needs to be bent and formed into different shapes. 

 

The stranded copper wire is not only flexible and durable but is also preferred over the stiffer solid wire as the latter is more likely to break at times of vibration or movement.  Stranded wire has more resistance to heat, is resistant to all types of rough weather and has maximum tensile strength. Stranded wire can be used in any application except for solder- less breadboards [boards made for electrical and electronic circuit building] where solid wire is preferable. Solid wire holds its shape and can easily routable on a straight path where they stay fixed without movement. Stranded wire being flexible and gets influenced by every external force and does not stick to its place. The stranded wire is a better conductor of electricity. It has isolated wires that together form a larger surface area. It also is used is materials that get weakened by repeatedly being subject to loads and tends to get damaged. 

Stranded copper wire is ideal for cables moving through a circuit board and knobs/ switches in an enclosure. Solid wire cannot be used for long in conduits or in making terminations in cabinet junction boxes. Stranded wire keeps growing stronger as and when bent. Solid wire will break after a few twists and bends.

Stranded copper wire being more flexible is easier to pull and setup without any hassles though it may lose its shape if not kept on a spool. It is more expensive than the solid wire but offers more functionalities and higher flexibility and used in wider applications.  Stranded wire is used in almost all computer devices, electrical appliances and networking cable though while laying wire in a house or buildings the solid wire is better as it is stiffer and straight. Solid wires are also used in magnetic wiring, electric coils and motors. The stranded wire is also extensively used in musical instrument cables, line cords, welding electronic cables, computer mouse, mining machine cables, audio headphones, control cables that connect different moving machine parts, machine cables and many more similar devices. 

Stranded copper wire is widely manufactured in countries like China, Russia, and France and is available in three types of bare copper stranded wire; tinned copper stranded wire and hard copper stranded wire. Most of the industries like mining, telecommunications, electrical, electronic are in need of the copper wire in some form or the other.
