What the GATE is all about:
GATE, or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is a national level examination that students appear for, to gain admissions into postgraduate engineering and technology courses. The candidates can get into M. Tech and PhD programmes in reputed institutes like the IISc, IITs, IISERs, etc. through their GATE scores. A number of Public Sector Undertakings also recruit candidates on the basis of GATE scores. This year, more than 50 PSUs, like ONGC, BHEL, etc., are running recruitments based on the GATE 2017 scores.

Every year, the GATE exam is organized by IISc and seven IITs on a rotational basis. This year, over 8 lakh students appeared for the GATE 2017, and now await their results.

What GATE Covers:
GATE is designed to test the caliber and aptitude of engineering graduates and is held for 23 papers. The candidates need to choose one paper of their choice that they wish to appear for. Every paper of course has a separate syllabus, based on the core principals of the discipline. There is no age limit imposed on the students wishing to appear for the GATE exam and there is no maximum number of attempts that a student may make. Once the GATE 2017 result is announced, the score will remain valid for a period of three years from the date of announcement.

Preparations:
The registrations for the next GATE exam will open later this year, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start preparing. It is never too soon to begin your studies. Visit the official GATE website for the syllabus for the paper of your choice, list of reference books, etc. and get ready to crack the exam. Lakhs of hopefuls apply for the exam every year; which isn’t a surprise if you look at the benefits a good GATE score can get for you.

The GATE exam is one of the most important exams held in the country and if you wish to appear for it next year, make sure you start preparing well in advance.
