A Brief Account of CLAT Exam 2017
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam organized on a rotational basis by 18 prominent National Law Universities (NLUs) of the country. The candidate needs to crack the exam in order to get admission into UG and PG law programmes offered by these participating universities.
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam organized on a rotational basis by 18 prominent National Law Universities (NLUs) of the country. In order to secure admission in integrated LLB and LLM courses offered by these universities, candidates need to clear this exam. It is a two-hour computer-based exam having objective type questions. The online application process for the exam started on January 1, 2017 and the CLAT 2017 exam will be conducted on May 14, 2017 by Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna on various centers across the country.
CLAT 2017 Exam Pattern
for UG Law Courses
CLAT
2017 for UG course admissions will be an online exam having 200 multiple choice
questions which candidates are expected to attempt in a two hours duration. The
exam consists of different sections wherein the candidate will be evaluated in
subjects, including English (40 marks), Elementary Mathematics (20 marks),
General Knowledge & Current Affairs (50 marks), Legal Aptitude (50 marks) and
Logical Reasoning (40 marks). For every correct answer, the candidate will be
awarded 1 mark, while 0.25 mark will be deducted for every wrong option
selected.
While
the English section includes comprehension passages and grammar, Mathematics
syllabus consists of elementary level Mathematics taught till class X. General
Knowledge and Current Affairs section will have questions related to national
and international events and issues. The Legal Aptitude section will test the problem-solving
ability and research aptitude. Logical reasoning section includes pattern
identification and analogies & will evaluate the candidate based on his/her
reasoning ability.
CLAT 2017 Exam Pattern
for LLM Course
CLAT 2017 exam pattern for LLM courses include
a total of 150 objective type questions that has to be solved in a two hours
duration. The exam covers three subject areas including Constitutional Law,
Jurisprudence and Other
law subjects (Criminal Law, International Law, Contract, Torts, Environment Law
and Human Rights, etc.). Each section consists of 50 marks and follows a
negative marking policy similar to that of the UG law courses for every wrong
answer selected. To get shortlisted for admissions into any NLUs of India, the
candidate needs to crack the exam with a good CLAT score.
CLAT Admission Process

Candidates
seeking admission into undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes in
participating universities need to appear for CLAT 2017. The admission process starts with the exam notification
and availability of application forms. Once the forms are submitted, the
candidates are required to appear for the CLAT exam. All India Ranks (AIRs) and
CLAT 2017 scores will be awarded to candidates based on their performance in the
law examination which will be accepted by various law schools of the country including
NLUs. CLAT 2017 counseling will then be
conducted by the CLAT committee through an online centralized counseling system
based on which the seats will be allotted to the candidates in different NLUs.
CLAT
2017 results will be declared on May 29, 2017. The counseling procedure for CLAT 2017 will start from June 5, 2017,
until June 19, 2017. The seat allotment will be based on merit-cum-preference.
