NEET UG 2017 – Everything From the Exam Date to Eligibility Criteria

NEET 2017 is set to be scheduled on 7th May, 2017 for admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes. This exam has replaced AIPMT along with all other State & University level medical entrance tests after a significant decision made by the Supreme Court of India. 

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET 2017 will be conducted for candidates aspiring to get admission into MBBS and BDS programmes. The examination is regulated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Interested candidates who have successfully applied for the exam can now download their respective admit cards from the official website of NEET from 15th April 2017. NEET 2017 exam is scheduled to be conducted on 7th May, 2017.

What is new in NEET 2017?
In a significant decision, the Supreme Court has replaced AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) and other State & University level medical entrance examination and re-introduced NEET as a single-tier entrance test from 2016 for admission to MBBS and BDS programs offered by various medical institutions of the country. This decision was taken as an effort to bring transparency in medical entrance tests and relieve students from the stress of appearing in multiple entrance examinations conducted for admissions in various medical courses. 

  • NEET has replaced all the state and national level medical exams except AIIMS MBBS and JIPMER, Pondicherry.
  • Candidates appearing for NEET 2017 can now select any one of the 10 languages – Hindi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Oriya.
  • It is important for candidates to possess AADHAR Card which is an important document while filling up NEET Application Form 2017.

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidate must be 17 years or should have turned 17 at the time of admission or on or before December 31, 2017.
  • The maximum age limit as on the date of admission for NEET 2017 is set to be 25 years, while a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age will be given to candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward-Class categories.
  • The number of attempts for NEET-UG examination is limited to 3 for all candidates. Appearance in NEET 2017 exam will be counted as the first attempt.
  • Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals will be considered eligible for NEET (UG)-2017.

Eligibility criteria for seats under the control of States/Universities/AFMC:

  • Indian Nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals are entitled to admission in Medical/Dental Colleges as per the rules and regulations formulated by the respective State Governments and the Government of India.
  • All Indian Nationals, PIOs, NRIs, OCIs and Foreign Nationals will be eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
  • Foreign nationals would need to confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental colleges/state government.

Eligibility Criteria for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K students:

  • Students belonging to states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K will not be considered eligible for 15% All India quota seats as they had opted out of the All India Scheme. Students from these states can claim their eligibility by submitting an online Self-Declaration, which will be confirmed at the time of counseling.
  • Candidates from these states can appear in NEET 2017 for admissions to Private Medical/Dental Colleges/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, based on their fulfillment of eligibility conditions.
