Do the Math Escape the Wrath
I have to laugh sometimes when people ask me to join an opportunity that they claim pays well, or has an incredible pay plan, especially when i take a look and perform some simple maths to confirm or deny their claims.
Take one example i heard about recently this guy was touting how he made around $80 just referring people into his ptc opportunity and had added around 400 people to his downline through personal referrals, well if you do the math $80 divided by 400 it equates to 19 cents per referral he has made, to some that would seem reasonable but to me it states i have to work my butt off talking people into an opportunity that pays nickels and dimes while pocketing dollars for the owners.
say each referral took me 15 minutes to gain the signup thats a total of 4 signups and hour and my hourly rate is just a mere 76 cents an hour, I can get paid more working in asian sweatshop and i don't have to risk my reputation or the anger of those i have conned into signing up when the opportunity is suddenly closed.
The moral here is to do the maths don't take anyones word on how much your going to get paid, look at the payplan and work it out for yourself, if the payplan is that complex you need to be a maths professor to decipher it and reach a conclusion then run don't walk run because the chances are it's complex in order to confuse you and hide the real truth that your unlikely to make anything like an income.

@Tony you can't go to prison for being a Stock Broker operating within the law. You can however being a ponzi scammer and saying screw the law I'll do as I please without regard to the people you rob. You sir are showing an extreme lack of moral fiber arguing against all that is legal because it has rules and takes work and in favor of a short cut that is ILLEGAL and creates victims by preying on people who don't know any better or are up there in years and feeble of mind. You used a lot of word

The stock market like internet marketing is not a scam but it is full of scammers just like IM ever heard of Bernie Madoff? Ever heard of a Boiler room Scam? People get caught when no one knows any better and if more people would speak up these scam would run out of recruits because more people would be wise to them.
Sorry but your attempt to generalize doesn't fly. You attempt to justify scams simply because they 'mimic' something legitimate. Squawk all you like, you aren't going to stop

I believe that running a business is not like being in politics where everyone who isn't thinks they could do a better job and nobody admits to voting for the a__holes in power. Unless you've tried at least, and have an open mind, you'll understand that MLM or network marketing is exactly like the merry-go-round of a just over broke (JOB) 40 hour week which never runs out of recruits because they are forced into the brain washing machine of public schools financed by the thieves who run the coun

@Helen people may do as they will but not speaking up makes us part of the problem instead of the solution. People get burnt by scams and dubious programs daily not knowing the difference or making the choice. When they do they don't go away damning and talking down scams and dishonest websites, they instead go away and blame all of Internet Marketing and home business calling it all a scam. My business is harder to run now that it was 7 years ago when everyone kept their mouth shut and let peop

Nice Article Dave, but the bottom line is people are going to do what they want to do no matter how much you caution them. Thank you for your precautionary article. I for one appreciate you efforts, and I'm sure other members do too!

I agree I would never promote a program until it has proven it self to me.

@tony working with algorithms on a daily basis running a search engine i think i know maths pretty well and i find it amusing that the formulaes used in most of these get rich quick schemes are mostly very simple equations hidden by a ton of running in circles, however once you have disposed of the smoke and mirrors and realize the base equation is 1+1=11 you soon understand that somewhere someone is robbing you blind

@tony the summary of what you are saying is there will always be new victims. Regardless of finite or infinite amounts the system in PTC sites is morally bankrupt, corrupt, and dishonest. It doesn't matter how many new victims are born every day. WRONG is still WRONG!

Very well written article and an excellent reminder to do the math first before you decide to do something like that. I think that it should be an article everyone should read at least once a month to remind themselves whether its worth it or not to take part in one of these make money scheme.

@ Tony you are obviously confused, I know network marketing and networking can and do work,
I certainly know more than basic mathematics running several very succsessful busineses offline for 30years and several more online for over 7 years .
I too can also quote network marketing literature verbatim though do not feel the need to do so,
in and Ideal enviroment what you say may be true where all your arguments fall down and where many others fail is not to factor in the contribution o

@Tony from your comment it's obvious that you do not understand simple math or the term 'finite'. And the problem with your reasoning is that the number of prospects available to draw into these programs is finite. Once you run out of program hoppers and newbies who do not know any better, the program collapses. When it collapses those at the top have profited from taking advantage of those who came in under them. Simple math bears this out.
But if you don't think so, be my guest and see

If it's too hot for you, get out of the kitchen! It's obvious none of you know anything but simple mathematics and spelling as well. First of all ... your sponsor has to help YOU get your first person in order to duplicate him/herself. If that isn't done ... You both are!
This is where 'net-work' marketing, both online and off-line, fails miserably. It's not the math that fails you, it's you that fails the math.

Dave I don't know how many times we have to repeat this. In all honesty PTC cycle through APSense and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. 6-8 months later not a peep from them. Sorry I value my time and if it can't generate minimum wage for me, I need to be out getting a 'just over broke' just to survive.

There are many such programs on line. Often with pictures of villa's with swimming pool, Ferrari's and bags loaded with money and with beautiful happy people smiling. Often the math has been done for you. You only need 3, who gets 3 and so on, so a math example of the ideal situation what unfortunately does not reflect the situation in real life. Sure people get sign ups attracted by this beautiful picture of the American Dream or should i say Global Dream. Getting referrals is hard if you have

Its true so many either can't or don't do the math where opportunities are concerned, as on top of your figures once the outakes, man hours and expenses are accounted for I can only ever see a minus figure in so many and certainly not an income,
