Setting your Sites on Success

Image If your like most Marketers and webmasters you don't put all your eggs in one basket but rather have 3 or 4 products that you market regularly and form the basis of your income chain.

however some marketers seem to grab the sales and make small fortunes while others simply plug away getting the odd occasional sale but never really striking it rich, despite how much effort they put into their marketing or their site design and sales pitch the results just don't happen.

Many will blame the software they are using while others accuse of using secret formulas and software to generate the sales, the truth in fact is neither of these items are to blame, If you step back and make a comparison between a successful site and a not so successful site you will see they are in fact laid out differently and the marketers approach is different.

Many times i have been searching for a specific product and having performed a search opened a site to see a myriad of different items and categories but no sign of the one item i actually visited the site to find,I bet you have also experienced the same !.

This type of site is a prime example of poor structuring and extremely poor seo, when people search for an item and seeing a link in the search results they expect that link to transport them directly to the product or information they were seeking.

So how can we correct this problem ?, well there are a few ways to make the site more search friendly, the first of which is to ensure that each page carries a set of accurate keyword tags, these will allow the search engine to lazer in on a page containing a specific product or information string.

Another method used to strengthen the first is the use of anchors, by anchoring a text reference to the item it further reduces the chances of the search engine overlooking a particular item.

Categorizing needs to be done properly on a site selling multiple products across a range of product types and again keywords and anchors will play a huge part in how well the site performs.

There is another way to structure your site though and this method is even more effective but requires a lot more work on the part of the webmaster.

This model rather than using a system where product groups are broken down and included in a category tree relies on the webmaster creating subdomains targeted to a product group for instance electrical.youdomain.com , this allows the search engines to rank accurately and send targeted visitors, you will still need to apply proper keywords to each page as well as anchor texts but it will allow you to ensure that everything that appears on those pages will be relevant to the major category "Electrical" this includes on page third party advertising.

Using this method the site structures efficiency is vastly improved as are the results you will get.

Now we can also take this a step further, say we belong to 4 opportunities and up to now we have been busy promoting all 4 through the one website, again we are creating a small tangle that visitors have to unravel to get to the particular information they want, but the big problem lies with the search engines, one way to fix this is to give each opportunity it's own sub-domain and to link this through a simple hub page acting as the main site.

Now it may seem that having a hub page as the front with 4 sub-domains coming off of it is still creating a tangle however the hub page should be configured so it is a single page divided into four areas or tables each displaying a short description of the opportunity it represents with a clickable link to learn more, this page will be easy to get ranked and positioned and will allow visitors to quickly locate exactly what they came for in the first place while giving some ideas on what other opportunities or products you offer.

So the theme for setting your sites on success is good layout and design, taking the time to think about your site from a visitors point of view and creating a smooth passage from the entry point to the information being sought, achieving this smooth flow will almost ensure your sites success as a sales machine.
