What’s Santa up to when the North Pole is Melting??
Of all the fairy tales and their plots, Santa and his fantasy land in the North Pole is one of the most appealing set-ups to fancy our imagination. But, what Ian Irvine points out to is more of a stark reality, far from the land to comfort our senses. Indeed, North pole is melting, and with that are vanishing the icebergs of the exotic land where we like to transport our humdrum shelves to vent out some grudges and bitterness.

Irvine has depicted a proper crisis in the North pole through the plot of Santa and his associates. The melting icebergs almost snatched the life of one of Santa’s reindeers. Dasher, the reckless reindeer was in the verge of death when the series of crumbling icebergs landed him amidst bone-chilling Arctic sea. Dasher’s heroic effort, however, was not for nothing. He wanted to save the snow-moss ice cream that Vixen dropped after being shocked by the sudden huge cracking sound as the result of which the North pole took so violent shakes that its ice started breaking apart with a rapid sequences.
Dasher’s gallantry did not let him stop to the disaster around him, and he braved the journey to save Vixen’s ice cream, but ultimately risked his life. Fortunately, Vixen led him to a lucky escape and Dasher’s life got saved. They returned to their well-acquainted land only to find that there must have been some problems going on. Everything was not all right. They discovered that the toy workshop shows no usual activities. There was no sound of the elves that usually work at their benches. Even, Santa looked very worried. He seemed to investigate the reason behind such disaster in the North Pole.

Both Vixen and Dasher, then, got curious about what Santa, Telver and Matilda were up to. They started spying on them, following them to Santa’s office. After several episodes of research among themselves Comet, the reindeer with twisted antlers and a long tangled mane, unraveled the fact behind the melting ice. It was Global Warming behind it. He brought up an analogical study between the North Pole in 1980 and what it would be like in the very next year. The conclusion being that the ice in the North Pole is melting from beneath, and anytime there can be such scene where one has to really struggle to find ice.
Irvine created such imaginary world to the hardcore fact of Global Warming that we can only wish to evade such impending danger by God’s grace and consciousness roused to humanity.
Ian Irvine has written a number of great epic fantasies and eco- thrillers, topics that have underlying tone of sensibilities for the humanity. Roland Kulen, co-author of The Last Christmas and a passionate lover of story-telling, teamed up with Irvine to create this magnificent eco-thriller, The Last Christmas. The introduction of the book has already arrested readers’ attention worldwide. And, they are impatiently waiting for the complete revelation of the story.
