Warming Takes its Toll at The North Pole

The Last Christmas gives an alarming message on the harmful effects of Global Warming, especially at the Arctic region. Under the tone of fantasy adventure the book highlights on the mindless acts of people all over the world, which summon the ultimate disaster on the world. The fast disappearance of ice at the North Pole is just a prelude to it. 

 

As the story starts we see two of Santa’s reindeers being busy in their playful moods. Suddenly, ice under their feet begins to crack with terrible noise. They somehow manage to escape a life-threatening situation, and go on finding what the hell going on there is. They come across desolate spectacles everywhere, as if the inhabitants of the North Pole have all imprisoned themselves in their homes out of sheer terror. 

 

A meeting is seen to have been taken place at Santa’s office where apart from Santa and Matilda there are Telver, Rafe and Comet to investigate the reason behind such turmoil at the North Pole. Vixen and Dasher climb up to the skylight of the office to peep inside. They observed a grave reflection on everyone’s gestures. And, as their curiosity rise Dasher strides on the skylight to get a better view but only to break it down. They land amid the room creating a mess. 

 

Comet pull a map for comparing the scenario at the North Pole now with the one that was in 1980. The result is quite alarming. Compared to 1980 very little ice is there at present. And, this is anticipated to worsen further. A heart-breaking picture of a polar bear with her two cubs on a floe explains it more meaningfully. The stability of ice layers at the North Pole is in serious doubt near future. 

 

And, if stability of the North Pole is under question, the existence of Santa Claus is also under a serious threat. Worldwide warming is on its march to engulf everything serene and ecstatic. Our mindless use of fuels is giving rise to the greenhouse gases that trap all the heat withing the atmosphere.
