Save the North Pole, Save our Santa Claus
Ian Irvine creates a world of fantasy adventure in The Last Christmas where a disaster is threatening everything that is natural and beautiful. When two of Santa’s reindeers, Dasher and Vixen, are in their playful moods the tranquility of the place suddenly gets struck by the bolts out of the blue. Ice sheets are crumbled down in series, and Dasher almost encounters a certain death. This unexpected calamity at the North Pole brings life there to take a pause. When after escaping from the life-threatening crisis Vixen and Dasher start to get normal they observe a total silence surging everywhere, as if everyone has become petrified with the shock.
Shortly, however, they notice a meeting to be taking place at Santa’s office aiming at identifying the main source behind the turmoil. As the meeting goes on Dasher and Vixen climb up to the rooftop to peep into the meeting through the skylight. Everything goes just fine when suddenly the skylight breaks apart once Dasher strides onto it to have a better view of the room. This further takes everybody into a momentary shock.

As things begin to get a bit rational we see Comet pointing out towards a stark reality. He initiates a comparative contrast between the size of the ice at the North Pole at present and the size of it was in 70s. The outcome is quite startling. The ice at the North Pole is fast becoming a vanishing reality. The more we are taking advantages of natural resources the faster the eco-balance gets worse. The reality is symbolised more appropriately in the pathetic picture of a polar bear floating on a slice of ice with her two cubs. This is the picture of future North Pole where ice will be too rare to find.

Under the cover of a comic series of events the story gives out a serious message for humanity - save the North Pole. If we do not take lessons from it at once, it will be too late to save the Arctic region and the Christian emotions associated with it. Our mindless acts of burning measureless amount of coals and oils are primarily responsible for the ever-reducing ice sheets there. The greenhouse effect produced by such indiscreet acts further strengthens the evil fists of Global Warming. Now it is totally on us whether we will try restoring the balance in nature or soon we are to meet our last Christmas.
