Welcome to Durgapur Aero-City – The City of Future

Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited – a company engaged in developing Aerotropolis cities in India, has come up with India’s first Aerotropolis – in the city of Durgapur, West Bengal. The company has planned this project in co-ordination with a Singapore based firm, named – Changi Airports International, which has got massive experience in developing many such Aerotropolis around the world. They have already developed similar projects in the countries like – Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. These aero-cities have seen great developments after their transformation into Aerotropolis. 

An Aerotropolis can be called upon as an extension cum transformation of a city into an airport city. The development of an Aerotropolis is dependent on the revenues as generated by the airport or the aviation as a whole. An Aerotropolis is expected to have some basic infrastructures that may include the following:

The airport was developed in a nearby city named Andal. It was developed on an area of about 600 acres and the total expenses incurred were over Rupees 650 crores. BAPL initiated flights between Durgapur and Kolkata, which was extended to Durgapur – Kolkata – New Delhi. Initially the airport started with a 42 seater aircraft, which was further replaced by Boeing 707, seeing the demand of public. The company has further plans to extend flights to cover-up other metropolis cities in the country.

 

It is an ultra-modern airport, with all the great amenities of an Aerotropolis that are seen with other aero-cities around the world. The ultimate aim of an Aerotropolis city is to help businesses around the airport flourish and yield revenues for the infrastructural developments of the region as a whole. As a part of this project BAPL introduced a great residential project and named it as Sujalaam skycity. After the launch of its hi-tech residential project, the city of Durgapur has seen a massive gain in its reputation in the real estate sector.

Mr. Partha Ghosh from BAPL had the vision to bring the Aerotropolis concept in India and he did it with great success. Besides developing this Aerotropolis, Mr. Partha Ghosh also did develop a skycity named Sujalaam – the skycity, which is a part of this Aerotropolis concept.
