Air India Introduces Direct Flights from Durgapur to New Delhi

BAPL also known by name – Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited is a company that is developed to form Aerotropolis projects in India. India already had its firm place in the aviation industry. With the introduction of an Aerotropolis in the state of West Bengal, India has become more technologically stronger now. Marking a city as an Aerotropolis will be a term that states the transformation of a city into an airport city. 

An airport city is one which has its trade, commerce, and infrastructures all dependants on the revenues that the airport earns. It indeed differs from the traditional city airport, because a city airport (which we normally see in just any big city), is independent of any obligation to earn revenues for the betterment of the society or the airport’s infrastructure. There the government looks after the maintenance and betterment of those issues. 

An Aerotropolis is generally run and maintained by a private body, which in case of Durgapur Aerotropolis is BAPL. It is India’s first privately owned airport. It started its operations about a year back when this Aerotropolis airport was ready to all set its steps in the aviation world. This airport is built in Andal, which is an adjacent town to Durgapur. 

The airport is built in an area covering 650 acres of land. It is an ultra-modern airport with full features of a modern Aerotropolis. Moreover, Durgapur airport enjoys many amenities that the airport around the other world Aerotropolis does. It has two long air-strips that are able to accommodate narrow and wide body aircrafts. It has a grand lobby to accommodate a large number of passengers-in-transit. Moreover, it can handle about 1 million passengers per year. It also has two baggage counters to transfer goods and cargo. Other than these the airport has some other features like having stores and shopping centres within. 

Currently, the Durgapur airport runs flights only between Durgapur and New Delhi, but the project has plans to extend its services to the other cities as well. In the beginning it was Pinnacle Air, who was operating flights, but now country’s most trusted Airline Company – Air India has taken the place and it operated daily flights between the cities.

 

Mr Partha Ghosh is the person behind the development of Andal Airport that formed India’s first Aerotropolis. As a key person behind this grand project, Mr Partha Ghosh came up with newer technologies that made BAPL proud of its achievements.
