Durgapur Aerotropolis Reckons as an Ornament to Eastern India

In a view towards boosting the aviation industry, a unique concept of developing an Aerotropolis city in West Bengal, was formed by a company named Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL). There have been a number of Aerotropolis cities around the world so far, but for India it was a new concept where someone took initiative to visualise differently and proposed the development of an Aero-city in a way just as the other great Aerotropolis cities were developed around the world.

Mr. Partha Ghosh was the key person who led this Bengal Aerotropolis project and he came up with India’s first aero-city. Durgapur, a small town in the state of west Bengal came forward to be India’s first Aerotropolis city. BAPL was formed in the year 2006 in a view to have infrastructural development projects in different locations of India. The Aerotropolis project in Durgapur is the first one in the state or rather say first one in the whole of the country. After this the company is going to form another Aerotropolis project in Ludhiana, Punjab. The next coming-up project is the development of sky cities around this Aerotropolis which is also in its final stages.

BAPL has been proven to become a financially strong company. The company has grown up to its commitments in respect of urban developments, delivery schedules, and environmental preservation. The company has got a tie-up with a Singapore based firm named – Changi Airports International that has given its expertise to BAPL’s airport development project. The company also is responsible for smooth running of the airport’s operations. Changi Airports International has previous experience in developing similar projects in other parts of the world. It indeed developed Aerotropolis cities in the city-state of Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. 

The skycity as developed by BAPL, has been one of a kind in the whole Eastern India. It is known as Sujalaam Skycity and has an area of about 2300 sq. metres. It is a big residential complex that is aimed at providing cheap accommodation for all classes. People are having good occupancy in this housing society and the company is planning to roll out more residential plots in near future. 

The overall Aerotropolis project is having all the amenities that account for its smooth business operations. It has multi-model logistics, ultra-modern airport, Industrial skypark, IT skypark, logistic skyhub, business skypark, education skycity and health skycity. Mr. Partha Ghosh who is also the Managing Director of BAPL has given all that the project promised to the society. It was he who had visualized the total project much before it was conceptualized and monetized.
