Good news for all wanderlust travellers! This is on the grounds that planes will arrive on runways. Having a city with an airplane terminal and a skycity nearby, whose economy revolves around each other, forms an Aerotropolis. The project, Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL) is running in full action now.

In fact, it is the first ever Skycity that has its own infrastructure in terms of residential plots, business offices, Information Technology hubs, and entertainment centres, which are minutes away from the location. In addition, it also has its own commercial airport.

With the advent of this Aerotropolis at Durgapur, the steel city of West Bengal has now developed into a commercial hub. The BAPL venture has been upheld by a Singapore based organization named - Changi Airports International, who has given the complete technical supports to form the air terminal and its bases. It is one of the biggest Airport administration company on the planet. The total project of airport development and skycity construction has completed in schedule time which the company expected.

BAPL has tied up with country’s major air carriers to facilitate the air transit of passengers. They have spoken to GoAir, and IndiGo very recently, and plans are being made further to include Durgapur as their route destination.

The Skycity has been given its title as – Sujalaam. It is spread over an area of about 1616 square kilometres. In 2007 the West Bengal State Government re-planned the whole project and initiated plans to redevelop the airport on 650 acres of land. The re-structured plan also included erecting an industrial park, an InfoTech park, a logistics hub, and a supporting township, all within a radius distance of 15 kilometres from the industrial town of Durgapur which has an area of over 1650 acres, with a total investment of Rs. 12,000 crore.

The Asansol and Durgapur belt has a population of about three million. BAPL planned to configure its action plans around few industries that include:

  • Locomotives Industry
  • Iron & Steel Industry,
  • Aluminum Industry
  • Coal Mining Industry
  • Power Generation Sectors

These industries can prove to be a good source of generating prospects for the total Aerotropolis plan.  Partha Ghosh of Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited has brought up the development of another metro destination in the state of West Bengal. It is planning to extend its air networks to the entire of eastern India. Partha Ghosh of BAPL is the primary mind behind this project.

Author's bio: Bengal Aerotropolis project is supported by Mr. Partha Ghosh of BAPL, as he is the Managing Director of the company. Regarding the company’s success stories, Mr Partha Ghosh says on Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited that the 650 acres air terminal turns out to be the main centre of attraction that itself is the part of the Rs. 10,000 crore project.
