Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana Housing Scheme in Odisha Launching Soon
Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana is all set to be launched by the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on February 20, 2016. Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana is aimed to offer pucca housing to registered construction workers of the state.
The decision for the launch of housing scheme for construction workers was taken on 6th February in a high level meeting organised at the state Secretariat and chaired by the Chief Minister.
The housing scheme is expected to provide financial assistance to about 12 Lakh construction workers in the state, as per information provided by Odisha Labour Minister Prafulla Mallik.
“Under the Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana, the State Government of Odisha would provide Rs one lakh assistance to registered construction workers for construction of pucca houses. The Labour Department would provide the assistance money to the Panchayati Raj Department after it identifies the beneficiaries. The Panchayati Raj Department will also facilitate the construction,” said Mallik speaking to reporters after the meeting.
Notably, earlier on November 3, Chief Minister Patnaik had made an announcement to launch the ‘Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana’ by December. The launch, however, got delayed by two months.
As per information provided by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) back then, under the plan, Rs 1 lakh as housing grant was supposed to be provided to construction workers through the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
A notification from CMO also stated that workers registered for minimum five years, and aged between 18 and 60 years, were eligible to get the grant to build houses on their own land. However, workers that had benefited from other housing schemes or had their own pucca house could not apply.
Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana would be a great benefit for the construction workers who have been registered with the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (OBOCWWB) for more than 5 years and have not availed homes in any other housing scheme.
Initially, 2000 workers have been identified as the beneficiaries of the scheme, and according to the stats, only 27,000 of 12 Lakh workers are currently eligible for the scheme.
