Durgapur Takes a Renovated Look with the Launch of Sujalaam Skycity
The state of West Bengal has many small and big towns. Most of them are located in close proximity to each other. Additionally, there also lies an entire industrial zone that is a home to many such towns. A few important one are: Durgapur, Asansol, Raniganj, Andal, and Chittranjan. The developments of these towns are dependent on the socio-economic conditions of the state. Very recently, as a measure to expand the ever growing industrial segment in this region, the Government of West Bengal passed a bill, dedicated towards development of an aero-city in Durgapur. It was the year 2015, when a company named Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL) came into existence that was formed to launch India’s first Aerotropolis city.
As a part of this Aerotropolis city, BAPL constructed a skycity, and named it as Sujalaam - the Skycity. Like many other sky-cities in the world, this one also holds a class of amenities that possesses a green open space all around, recreational facilities of a club, indoor and outdoor infrastructures, elevators at all residential towers, retail outlets, and a grand swimming pool. Larica Group, a company which is considered as a big player in the real estate development sector, was entrusted the task of developing high-rise residencies in Durgapur at the newly constructed project site ‘Sujalaam’. It was supposed to roll out a 10,000 units, budget housing project. The project is complete by now and covers an area of 10.56 acres.
The construction of Sujalaam sky city took near about just the expected scheduled time and the project is now ready in full swing. It was completed in phases. The Phase I contains about 2000 units of houses. The Skycity project is headed by Partha Ghosh of Bengal Aerotropolis who is among the Board of Directors and also the Managing Director of the company. Mr Partha Ghosh comments - there is a strong need to have an overall societal development of the community, when we look into developing such a project as of Sujalaam Skycity. The BAPL project also sees an airport beside the Sujalaam Skycity that completes the concept of an Aerotropolis. This airport is a refurbished version of an old military airway, which was used by the US Military during the World War II. The newly inaugurated one has been named as Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport. This airport has been developed by a Singapore based company named Changi Airports International Pte Ltd that has dedicated its expertise to look after all of its developmental aspects.
Author’s bio: Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited is a noteworthy one among infrastructure companies. In a view towards expansions of Aerotropolis concept among other states of India, Mr. Partha Ghosh, the MD of Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited states that many more projects are in the pipeline and that one such has already taken its due course in Ludhiana. Mr Partha Ghosh also comments that this Aerotropolis project would not have been complete without the construction of Sujalaam skycity.
