First, let us start with the term ‘supermarket’. Supermarket is a large self-service store that offers a wide variety of bakery, groceries, dairy and other household products. Earlier, the stores were located in some industrial buildings with no display facilities. Nowadays, it has become medium of food marketing with all the branded items whether it is food products or non-food goods. You can have extensive collection of good at low cost under the same roof. Usually, supermarkets are located near a residential area and with proper parking facility and 24*7 hours availability. Supermarkets spend their large budget over advertising through newspapers and display boards. The entire item is stored in the rack within the market store, the customer has to do the shopping themselves and at last, the cashier takes the cash from them.

Requires large area:
Super markets need extensive premises for the operation. To store food and non-food items in bulk and provide parking facility also that requires a large geographical area. To offer a large number of products with suitable choice will definitely need a large area to demonstrate their items.

Expensive items:
Branded and expensive items are available in the supermarket. Non-vegetarian items are more expensive in comparison to the local suppliers. As, they advertise the cheap products with more pleasant appearance in order to encourage to do shopping and to throw false impression on the customers.

Economic instability does not effect:
Large companies and businesses easily collapse due to instability of economic whereas, it does not affect the supermarkets. However, in coming time supermarket might be influenced due to the large number of local suppliers and growers and growing competition in the market.    

Dependence on cheap imports:
Supermarkets may lead to people’s exploitation and some more country’s problem as they are greatly dependant on cheaper imports.  Since, many farmers grow vegetables to sell it in the supermarkets while there is shortage within the same region. In the same way, large number of vegetable export may result to scarcity of ground water to grow for their country itself.

Time-consuming:
It is far good enough if the supermarket is close to your residence. Nevertheless, might become an issue in the other case. Sometime you have to visit multiple stores due to unavailability of any food and non-food products. Mostly the supermarkets are available in the cities where people of distant areas cannot reach.

Impersonal:
Proper attention to the individual customer remains an issue with the supermarket. The shopkeepers of local shops are very polite as well as friendly. One has to stand in large queues and waste a lot time over billing. At weekends, you need to face a large crowd because everyone comes to purchase household items.
