Clean Decorative Couch Pillows
Not only the upholstery of the couch needs regular cleaning, but also the decorative pillows that you use as a fresh addition to the couch need to be maintained properly to remove the dust, dirt and oils that they accumulate over time. Make sure that you clean them professionally at least twice a year when you use professional cleaning services for your carpets and furniture upholstery. Meanwhile you can regularly wash them to minimise the dirt and the unpleasant odours.
How to Wash Decorative Couch Pillows
Step 1: Check the tags of the pillows
Have a look at the pillows and find the manufacturers tags to see is the fabrics are suitable for machine washing. If it is suitable, proceed to the next step of the cleaning process. Otherwise go to step 5.
Step 2: Remove the covers
Remove the covers of the pillows and pre-treat the stained area with a pre-wash cleaning spray.
Step 3: Wash the pillows and the covers
Place the pillows and the covers separately into the washing machine to avoid damaging the colours. Use mild detergent and gentle cycle of the washing machine.
Step 4: Dry
As the washing cycle is complete, remove the pillows and the covers from the machine and hang them on the clothesline to dry.
Tip:To dry the pillows you may use the dryer to help restoring the shape and softness of the pillows.
Step 5: Soak the pillows and the covers
You may use the bathtub to separately soak the pillows and the covers. Use warm water and mild detergent and leave them to soak for a few minutes.
Tip:Avoid scrubbing and rubbing as this could damage the fabrics.
Step 6: Drain the water
To remove the excess water and foam from the pillows, drain them by pressing them hard.
Tip:Repeat step 5 and step 6 from the cleaning process several times to clean effectively the pillows.
Step 7: Rinse
Refill the bathtub with clean warm water and soak the pillows again. Drain and press to remove the excess water and repeat the process several times until the pillow is clean and the detergent is completely removed.
Step 8: Dry
Use the instructions on step 4 to dry out the pillows and the covers.
Tip:Do not put the covers on the pillows until they are completely dry as the dampness could create unpleasant smell and could attract dust and dirt.
