When you have a pet at home you need to be prepared for any kind of accidents and get familiar with all the cleaning methods for pet hair, stains, urine and odours. You need to take extra care for the carpets and ensure they are cleaned professionally every 12 to 18 months. Some good carpet cleaning habits will help you maintain the carpets well between the professional cleaning.

Cleaning Pet Stains from Carpets

  • Pet Hair

One of the biggest problems for pet owners is pet hair that gets accumulated in the carpet fibres. The regular vacuuming every other day can help you solve this problem. Another option for removing hair from carpets in between vacuuming is to wrap masking tape on an ole paint roller and run it across the carpet before vacuuming.

  • Pet Stains

Pets leave different stains on the floor – blood, dirt, vomit etc. Use natural or green cleaning products to treat the stains as soon as they appear. Avoid using commercial cleaning products that contain harsh chemicals as they could endanger the heath of your pet. Do not use a steam cleaner on the stained areas as the heat can set the pet stain so that they cannot be removed.

  • Pet Odours

Baking soda is the best solution to eliminate odours from carpets. Sprinkle the carpets surface and leave the soda to work during the night. In the morning vacuum thoroughly the carpet to remove the soda and the odours. You may also use commercial odour neutraliser; just make sure you choose a product that will be safe for the pets

  • Pet Urine

Even if you train you pet well, urine accidents always happen. The best thing that you can do is to start cleaning the spot immediately and perfectly remove the stain and the odour. Blot the stained area with paper towels and absorb as much of the moisture as possible. You may clean the area with a mixture of gentle dishwashing liquid and warm water. Use a clean piece of cloth to apply the cleaning mixture on the carpet and work gently from the edges of the stains and slowly move to the centre. Once you have cleaned the area, mix one part water vinegar with two parts water and apply it to the area. This will remove the unpleasant odour and prevent the pet from choosing this area again later. Leave the area to air dry and enjoy the time spent with your pet.
