4 Home-made Carpet cleaning recipes and solutions

by Margaret A. Manager

Carpets are a fine addition to your interior making the room complete, but there are other things why people prefer to have textile flooring instead of hardwood one. For example having a carpet minimizes and absorbs the noise because it has insulation qualities. Since it is insulator textile flooring is perfect for the winter months, it preserves heat keeping it in the room. And last but not least it just looks good, it's main purpose it is make the house look prettier.

When it comes to removing stains form the carpet we all have different approaches, some involve commercial cleaning products, others prefer home-made detergents. We're going to also about the second kind and more specifically some recipes which have proven useful and easy to prepare. Of course you can always address professional carpet cleaning company which will deep clean your carpet fast and easy, you won't have to move a finger.

First Steps When Dealing With A Stain

Before you attempt any cleaning techniques or method there are some things you have to do, first you have to determine what kind of stain you're dealing with. There are two types – acidic and alkali each require individual approach and cleaning solution. It is better if you do some research on the subject, you also have to know what your carpet is because they have different PH. If you get the wrong cleaning solution you can permanently damage the fibres.

Next you have to remove part of the spill if it is liquid use a clean cloth or kitchen paper, if solid scrape it out but be careful and use a dull knife or a spoon otherwise you risk damaging the fabric. Another thing you should be mindful of is pressure, if you apply too much the stain will go deeper into the fabric. This may not only make it difficult for removal but also there is a huge risk of making it permanent.

When you apply the cleaning solution remember to gently blot with a sponge, brush or with your fingers if the detergent is not dangerous for your health. This is the main reason why I recommend the usage of green, non toxic cleaners, not only they're better for the environment but also for your health. Also remember to rinse the area once you're done cleaning but not to oversaturate it because this will result in mould and mildew development.

Home-made cleaning Recipes

There are many ways you can use common household items for different purposes, for example baking soda has unique qualities in addition to the main usage of cake making. It is a wonderful cleaning agent with absorbing powers, I have successfully use it against red wine and coffee two of the most annoying stain there are. You have to sprinkle the spot and wait until it has fully absorb the excess moisture and then thoroughly vacuum.

If this doesn't help you can try hydrogen peroxide another useful common household item, I assume you know about its disinfectant properties. It has similar qualities to bleach but it is not toxic and doesn't damage the fibres of the fabric you're cleaning. Another cleaning method is to use a mixture of lukewarm water and liquid dish-washing detergent. You can so use an all-purpose cleaner as well as salt for greasy stains it somehow extracts and absorbs oil.
