Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL) is a company that was formed to set up Aerotropolis projects in India. The company has a number of directors and other persons who are responsible to the smooth operations of these projects. One among them is Mr. Partha Ghosh. He is the Managing Director of BAPL. It was a dream project for Mr. Partha Ghosh to form an Aerotropolis city in West Bengal that could lead the state in terms of social and economic developments.

With the development of Durgapur Aerotropolis both Mr. Partha Ghosh and BAPL came into limelight and gained much reputation. The project further passed through different stages and reached its final stage where a blooming Aerotropolis emerged. The Aerotropolis thus formed was completed in two stages. One was the development of a Skycity and another one was an ultra-modern airport. These together formed the India’s first Aerotropolis city.

The airport was named as KNI Airport or Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport and the sky city was named as Sujalaam – The Sky City. Durgapur reached great height in its reality sector after the city’s renovation into an Aerotropolis. People are coming to settle down there, as they find it a better place to live. They get attracted to the amenities that this Aerotropolis is providing. It has Schools, Colleges, Universities, Hospitals, Entertainment Hubs, and Shopping Centres. All of these are located in close proximity to the airport. The KNI airport was developed using an old abandoned airport at Andal, which is a small census town in the Burdwan district of West Bengal. It has a population of about two lakhs people. The nearby towns are Raniganj, Durgapur and Asansol which have a number of industries. The place was well connected to Kolkata with Rail and Road and now it has the Air connectivity as well. The KNI airport is set to provide both, cargo and passenger transit. There are two airstrips that accommodate Boeing 707 and narrow body aircrafts. The passenger terminal has a big lobby and four baggage counters. Additionally it has inline shops, duty free shops and all other amenities of a modern Aerotropolis. Mr. Partha Ghosh, being the key person behind the development of Andal airport, has gone a way beyond his endeavours to make this Aerotropolis project a one of its kind in the whole of India. He states – there are many more similar projects in the pipeline and the company soon is going to start working on the Ludhiana Aerotropolis.

Author’s bio: Mr. Partha Ghosh who holds a prominent position in BAPL, has given his best of best in developing India’s first Aerotropolis. As a part of this project, Mr. Partha Ghosh has also helped the old Andal airport come up as an ultra-modern airport that serves people around.
