Ads, Ads & More ads... It's almost a joke...

OK, i'm going to step on my soap box for a minute...

Buy this!
_Buy this
Buy this.
Buy this..
But this...
Buy this_
Buy this ?

I don't know about those doing it, but if i had to send the same ad to a dozen groups and only change the title enough to be recognised as a new subject by APsense software... I would feel absolutely desperate & embarrassed...

When i open APsense express and there are a dozen "ad posts" in a row, i can't help but laugh, surely a program like APsense is attracting serious (professionally minded) marketers who know better than this type of strategy...

For those that don't know, industry stats show that an ad needs around 8 exposures before someone clicks or responds (average)... But thats not 8 viewings in a row... its over time.

Of course the problem is, many of us have subscribed to multiple groups and when someone sends an advertisement - they repeat the same thing to multiple groups.

The simple and more productive solution here is to Post LESS, but post to a HIGHER niche group.

Don't just send your ad to a group because it says "Advertise Free". If you sell Bird seed, look for groups about birds... If you sell Garden Tools, look for groups about Gardening...

Be Professional in your approaches and you will receive stronger results.

I have done this Eric but I am certainly not desperate & embarrassed.

The way I see it many of the Apsense members are trying to get exposure to
whatever they are promoting be it a program, blog, product or service etc.

In my opinion if it is done once every few weeks or so it's ok providing
your are following the groups posting rules.

Every group does not have the same members. There may be a lot
in the same group but every group will have someone different and
new members join each group from time to time as well so if you
post your program, blog, product or service every few weeks or so
you will be getting more exposure.

If someone keeps posting the same ad for whatever every day for a week then this a problem I agree but because someone wants to get some exposure
I can't see what the problem is.

We all have a choice which groups we join.

Thanks,

Zac Josevski

We should respect it.

I am one of those people who have a successful business solely from SEO and Offline promotions. I target the delivery of my Marketing.

At Social Networking Sites I write articles, participate in discussions, etc.

Chances are Claudia, you would not have seen an advertisement from me... I never (I should say rarely) advertise. I don't remember sending an advert to any group since i have been here (Perhaps 1 or 2, but i can't remember if that was here or at another Social Networking site).

Old fashioned advertising has been overtaken by New age Marketing & Promotion based on fulfilling the wants and needs of consumers (both online and offline).

I knew this would be a controversial topic, but i started it to highlight the need for users to target their marketing or at the least - Give your Ads a "Group relevant" Subject even if the body of the ad is the same...

For example...

"XYZ member may be interested in this..."
"When i found this product - I thought of this group..."

If the product itself isn't targeted to the group being posted to, it is still easy to target the advertisement to the group itself...

I would recommend to those people who engage in the type of activity that you describe Eric, that they download the Apsense Express tool.

Firstly they'd see that it is a highly effective communication tool and secondly they may see how much their activity actually impedes their progress by using that strategy.

I would assert here, that the members who just post and post by cutting and pasting repeats, hoping for multiple hits, do not avail themselves of all the tools available at Apsense and therefore it is likely they've not downloaded the tools nor created ABCs, and rarely (if ever) write a blog or subject that would contribute to the community as a whole.

Perhaps we need a button along side 'Top It' which reads 'Duplicated Content at Apsense'.
When people receive 3 clicks, their post disappears into an archive that we could choose to view.

Many of us who've been marketing online for a few years could certainly tell them about the futility of their 'strategy'. Perhaps they would like to read some of our blogs and get a sense of what does and doesn't work.

If it is working and producing results for any of 'them' then I invite them to post here with data and a brief report of how much success they have experienced, then teach us all. Not that I'd ever truly want to go down that track! :)

This Topic has been covered under a variety of guises on Apsense and many other social marketing sites. I think a lot of us agree that yes you should target your audiance and make it relevant to them, also that you should contribute to the community if you provide useful content then people will see that and be more inclined to click your links or visit your blogs. But lets not forget this is a Social and BUSINESS network and that you do have control of the delete button. If I find a pile of the same adverst when I open up apsense express then all I do is click on the links and press delete. If we do this then people will eventually learn

Hello again,
sometimes I have the feeling, that we have here 2 kind of members.
The "Big Gurus", they know all and everything and have to teach the others, which are new in the business and not so experienced.
Sorry, I'm a member of the second group, and I'm thinking still, if there is something to share, so share it the way you like.
Have a great day.
And a look to my website.... lol

Hi Eric,

First of all - a "top" and a round of applause for your post.

When I open my ApSense Express and see a series of "buy me" posts - I just delete them without even bothering to read them. Sorry guys - but it has been done to death.

If ApSense content becomes a series of people throwing ads at each other, it loses its value alltogether.

I cant agree with you more that "ad blasting" is ridiculous and a big turn-off. Just because a product is for sale - it doesn't mean that I want to buy it. If it is, send it to me or a Group I belong to that has been targeted BECAUSE THERE IS A REASON WE MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN IT - then it might be worth looking at. But if the reason is that someone is selling it , then that is not a reason for buying.

And you are completely on target with your policy of Group participation. That way we get to know you and then may have a genuine interest in a business you might be promoting.

Ad Blasting is a self defeating exercise.

Saludos
Jenny

Claudia, there are no 'gurus' here. Just Google 'internet marketing guru' and you'll not find many of our names there. :)
We are all learning and that's why some of us prefer more material that will help with that.
Everyone has days when it can be a little tiring to have to wade through ads to find a good post with some quality content, rather than three lines with a link to another opportunity site. On days like that, I too have felt like posting as subject like Eric's. Haven't you felt that way in some communities?

Eric, I have noticed that there are a couple of groups from which these multiple ads commonly spring. So I'm thinking of no longer being a member of a few of those groups.

As group administrators we have a big say about what gets posted, and if I notice that something at my own group's discussions that is not relevant to my group's intention, that is not good quality or that has already been posted at more than 2 places, then I delete that subject at my group (thankfully, to date I've only had to do that twice).

In this way, we can all 'vote with our feet', or rather our fingers! :) lol

You could liken it to walking down a market street that has spruikers, and when we don't like shop owners trying to drag us into their stores with their spruiking, then we either avoid that street altogether or we simply cross the road.

I must say I'm guilty of using the delete button in my created groups. The policy is no blatant ads. The purpose of the groups are to share information and get to know each other. I''ve had several members join and post ads. So I've posted the policy in writing on the one I have had the most persistent problem. The first two ads will be deleted, after that as Group creator/administrator I will block the offending party. Each member has been encouraged to include their link in their signature so the members can look at the available products and home pages of their fellow members.

Hi Dave,

You are so right. This topic has been done to death here.

I personally see no point in repeating what I have already said in other threads on this subject.

Well this is a a little complicated in my mind. I have groups that are ads for my opportunities. I actually hope to help people succeed with the things I offer, with these groups.

When I post in other groups I refrain from ads and genuinely try to be helpful. There are some questions people ask, such as How to get traffic, referrals, etc.. that call for a link and I am guilty of posting referral links, But I would not post them if I felt they were unhelpful.

So, I do not know I try to be ethical.

This topic certainly has been raised in other threads, but I agree with Eric that it is time to bring it to the forefront again. There are new people coming into Apsense all the time, and those old threads tend to get buried. I have noticed an increase in the ads in Apsense Express, and in my inbox again.

Certainly we all have our "own way" of doing things, but the point here is that sending multiple ads to multiple groups (or sending ads at all) is not an effective way to use social networking sites. We can get defensive, or we can heed the advice and learn how to get the most out of our experience here.

I already wrote few blogs and at leat one article on this topic, but Eric is poiting it from a different perspective.

One thing I have to say about DUPLICATE content submissions here: I was one of the sinners here at Apsense and did this (changing the titles and sending to more groups) but I have repented, after the discussion we had at Apsense, and I fill MUCH better now! It's just my own experience...

Most of us likely have been guilty of this at some point or another in time. I think the real point here is there are many better, more effective and professional ways to promote. Most importantly, let us not forget what this community is - A Business SOCIAL Network, Not a forum for blatent shouting. There are already more than enough places online where blatent shouting is all you see, here there are people building relationships and putting others first!

As for me, it was an absurd reason to write duplicate content, not advertising as I don't care about selling anything here. I know that all people here try to promote their business and nobody cares about what I have to sell, so my goal here is not to sell something to you. If you'll find my ads and like something that's up to you.

But, back to my issue, Apsense just released new feature paying for articles you write in blogs and groups. Joining more groups of my interest I just posted my subjects there. After about three days of posting articles I've realized that in order to make cash by posting articles I need to post at least 100 articles or more per day, so I gave up.

The truth is that you cannot make big amounts of money by writing articles here, but still they pay while you are promoting your business.

So, this was my sin when talking about duplicate content!
