Pandh Kaal Muhurtham
The wedding celebration begins with Pandh Kaal Muhurtham, where all the elderly of the family participate in the ritual. Considered as the oldest ritual in Tamil matrimony, all Tamilian wedding are initiated with Pandh Kaal Muhurtham. In this ritual, a wooden stick is placed outside the wedding house, and, then family members raise a Banana tree full of decoration to signify that the official wedding celebration has begun. After the ritual, the bride and groom seek the blessing of God and the elderly for a happy lifetime of togetherness.

Vratham
It is a symbolic ritual where family members of both bride and groom fast for the prosperity of soon to be the couple. It is a small ceremony that is performed a day before the official wedding, where nine different types of grains are kept in a clay pot aside before the D-day. The pot is then filled with water by married women of the family to allow the grains to sprout. The sprouted grains are representative of prosperity while the clay pot signifies house and grains as the couple themselves. After that folk songs are sung and family members rejoice and enjoy various rituals. The clay pot is then immersed in the nearby water body like a lake after a day or two where fishes can feast on the grains.

Nicchiyadhartham
This is an important ceremony where Tamil Brahmin Brides in the presence of a priest offer their prayer to god. The grooming part of the family then gifts the bride with wedding essential that includes sari, makeup, etc. The gifts are beautifully packed and sometimes even showcased as a wedding present. This small and beautiful ceremony is a welcoming gesture for the bride from the groom's family.

Kasha Yatra

After that, the groom is found pretending to leave and go study in Kashi to become a sanyasi but the bride family tries to convince him to stay back and get married to their daughter. After much conviction the groom heads to the wedding location and then the bride's side of the family welcomes him.

This is simply the most heartwarming tradition where the couple is asked to sit on the wooden swing and all the ladies in the house sing folk songs to celebrate holy matrimony. This ceremony is performed to help ease the process of marriage and make both the bride and groom comfortable before the actual Tamil Brahmin Matrimony and ward off any evil.

Kanyadan
With the kanyadan, the actual wedding begins. Both the parents of the bride perform the ritual, the father washes the feet of the groom while the mother of the bride applies kajal on his eyes. Then the bride parent gives their daughters hand to the groom. After that, the bride is presented with a nine-yard saree for the wedding from the groom’s side that she changes into. Then the marriage is performed. Some Brahmin Matrimonial also assists their customer to decorate the wedding mandap with their desired wedding themes.

The above-discussed ritual is only among the few usual ceremonies performed in Tamil wedding. Tamil Matrimonial sites can help you organize weddings according to tradition and rituals within your desired budget and location.
