  • Importing Lists and Transactions: Duplicates can occur when you opt to import lists and transactions from an external application into your company data file. The supported external applications include Microsoft Excel, other spreadsheet programs, and applications added to the default QuickBooks installation.

  • Point of Sale: Sometimes, customers can occasionally get entered twice in the customer list within your Point of Sale system. f an employee enters a name incorrectly, includes a middle name in one entry and leaves it out in another or simply doesn't check to see if the customer already exists, a duplicate entry can occur.

  • Downloaded Transactions: Manually entering transactions and using the automatic update feature may create duplicate transaction entries. To avoid this, you can disable the downloading transaction history option from your bank's website.

  • However, if you have reconciled the bank registers, then you have to track the  personal expenses by adding yourself as a supplier and then assigning the transactions to an owner’s equity account.
