Top 5 Must-Have Experiences on your Trip to Shimla

by Veena World Travel, Explore, Celebrate!

Shimla, lovingly known as the “Queen of the Hills”, is one of the most popular hill stations in India. The lush valleys, welcoming people, and rich culture have turned it into a tourist destination that just cannot be missed. For those who have never expired the Himalayas, Shimla happens to be a pretty wonderful introduction to it. From families, friends or couples, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh is beloved by one and all. Hence, the tour packages in Shimla for honeymooners or large groups tend to be highly popular all year round. Mentioned below are top five experiences of this enigmatic hill station:

1.   Visit the Mall Road
Vacationing in Shimla and not visiting the Mall Road would be highly frowned upon. This is because this street is the main shopping area in the whole city. From freshly prepared jalebis to the best leather products in the country, the Mall Road has something for everyone. Our personal recommendation would be to try out a softy cone, preferably dipped in chocolate. Additionally, the Ridge is located just at the end of the market where you can observe all the cultural activities taking place.

2.      Take a Toy Train Ride
One of the most memorable experiences that you can have in Shimla is taking a ride in the Toy Train. The journey begins from Kalka covering more than 100 tunnels, 969 bridges, and 20 railway stations in a time span of seven hours! The journey is said to be so mesmerising that reaching Shimla seems like a prize. For the ones who loved haunted stories, Tunnel 33 on this route is said to have a number of spooky tales of its own.

3.      Trek Up the Jakhu Temple
Reaching the famous Jakhu Temple can be quite a trek as it is located on the highest peak of Shimla. However, the journey will be fun if made with friends and family and trekking up would not seem as difficult. Once you reach this temple, you will be greeted with Lord Hanuman’s favourite devotees, a big colony of monkeys. The easiest way to not stir them is by offering fresh bananas available in the nearby market area. Once they are satisfied, you can easily pass through and seek blessings inside the temple.

4.      Camp in the Valley
Camping in Shimla can be a life-changing experience for tourists. This is because the flora of this part of the Himalayas happens to simply divine. So, when you are setting up on your camp in Mashobra, Kheerganga and other areas, remember to lay down on the sweet-smelling grass and watch the stars at night. For those who want a little assistance in this activity, there are several camping companies operating in the city. The best way to choose one is to read up customer reviews that highlight the real experiences of people just like you.

5.      Raft in the Sutlej at Tattapani
If you love river rafting, then Tattapani is the ideal place for you. Set along the serene Sutlej river, this hill station is located merely 50 km from Shimla. It is very famous for its hot springs, spa resorts, and Ayurvedic massage treatments. So, after your river rafting session is completed, do unwind yourself at one of the retreats in Tattapani. Who knows, you might heal those stubborn backaches! Preferably, spend an entire day in this area and then travel back to Shimla by road.
On your trip to Shimla, ensure that you carry the right clothes for the weather along with emergency medications.
