Located in the state of Uttarakhand, Nainital is essentially the largest town of Kumaon and one of the most prominent hill resorts of the country. Traditionally a British hill station, this steep forested valley is set around the Naini Lake. This lake is a popular boating site and has the auspicious Naina Devi Hindu Temple on its northern shore. Renowned for its spectacular scenic beauties, Nainital is an ideal destination to spend the summer vacations in. The best time to visit this quaint town would be approximately from May to mid-July and October.

  • Naini Lake: Nestled amidst the beautiful town of Nainital, Naini Lake is a tranquil natural fresh water lake. This water body is bounded by the snow-capped peaks in the north, Naini Peak on North West and Tiffin Point on the South Western side. You can enjoy picturesque sunrise and sunset views from this region. This area is surrounded by Coniferous trees that further add to its charm and rustic beauty.  This lake is divided into two sections, the southern part being called Tallital, while the northern side being referred to as the Mallital. The cable car starts from Mallital and goes right up to the Snow View Point. You can stay at the Snow View Point for an hour and click pictures of the scenic beauty around. Also, some lucky ones can even get a sight of the picturesque Nanda Devi, Trisul and Nanda Kot peak, on a clear day.
 
  • The Mall Road: A prime gastronomical, cultural and shopping center, the Mall road of Nainital connects the two ends of the hill town while running parallel to the Naini. On this site you can go for a shopping spree, and buy the famous decorative candles and woolens of Naintal.
 
  • Naina Devi Temple: Revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of the country, the Naina Devi Temple is an auspicious religious site located near the northern shores of the Naini Lake. Dedicated to the eyes of Devi sati, this temple is one of the prominent places of worship for Hindus across India. While this temple is very old, the idol of Naina Devi was installed here only in the year 1842.  According to Hindu mythological tales this temple has been constructed at the exact spot where the eyes of Goddess Sati fell on Earth after Lord Shiva carried out her charred body. You can easily locate the two eyes constructed on the topmost facade of this temple depicting the Goddess Naina Devi. There are the statues of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Kali surrounding it.
