Bantony castle was the summer palace of the former king of Sirmaur, which was later lent to Britishers who utilized the space for military purpose. However, since 1957 after independence, this building was being used as police headquarters till a few years ago. Recently, the state government had announced to turn Bantony castle near the mall into a heritage site and let it serve Shimla heritage tourism.


Also known as Viceregal Lodge, Rashtrapati Niwas had been the residence of the viceroy of the British empire.
