Tips for Photographing Babies

For sure there are a lot of tips for Photographing Babies, but the one I listed below are the tips that works for me and I hope it will work on you too.  Here are some of the easy steps for your baby photographs.

 

·          Burst that shot

Babies are so unpredictable – let them move, stretch and yawn. Do not stress over to wait for that perfect pose.  Those sweet movements are perfectly wonderful. So don’t be afraid in switching to burst mode.  For sure, there will be some 2 to 3 good shots out of 20 consecutive shots.

 

·          Encourage mom to get in front of the camera

I know it’s very hard at first for the mom to join the baby in photographs.  Make sure to capture the poses of baby and mom without too much effort because moms are mostly very uncomfortable in front of the camera.  Keep that in mind too that she’s still recovering from the surgery, so be very gentle.  The result of this is a bit of a casual approach and more natural.

 

·          Baby Pose

The baby pose is mostly done within the first 2weeks of birth – wherein the baby is still “mold-able”.  The purpose of this is to wrap the baby with the blanket, hats or headbands.  Once you master this the result is very stunning and beautiful.  This is the best time to put on some props with the baby.  It’s also effective in every photo shoot especially with the baby photography to have at least 2 to 3 kinds of poses before you arrived in the client’s house.  So you will not stumble on which pose you will do first.

 

·          Talk with the parents

First of all you have to talk to the parents first of what they can expect on the shoot.  In this stage you have to build the trust between you and the parents.  During the shoot, don’t be afraid to ask for assistance with the mother.  If you’re still new to baby photo shoots, you can ask the mother to do this and do that to the baby.  As you go on, you can learn how to deal with this kind of shoots. 

 

·          Prepare the client

Just like in my every shoot, I always make sure to give a prep tips with the client or the model.  In baby Photo shoot, mother’s know when is the best time the baby is sleeping so you can come during that time.  I also ask the parents to dress the baby before he sleeps so he won’t be bother with it.
