Synchronized Swimming
Synchronized swimming is a combination of swimming. Gymnastics and dance. It is a hybrid form of swimming that consist of swimmers performing a synchronized routine of elaborate moves in water along with the music. This type of swimming requires a lot of water skills and also great strength,endurance,power and flexibility to perform it. Most of the people do not consider it as a sport. People believe that just by flapping arms one cannot become a sports player. Although dancing has not broken any type of world records but if a particular activity requires you to portray certain types of skills then it should be considered as a sport.
If we regard swimming as a sport the synchronized swimming should also be considered as a sport. If we take a deep look then it involves a lot of water skills that is actually not an easy task. One has remember a lot of steps and have to follow that in a synchronized manner that too accompanied with the music. It is performed by a group of people and they have to maintain a lot of coordination. It can also be performed solo. It is not as easy task to maintain coordination inside water.
Though it has not yet gained popularity but it has been a part of Summer Olympic programme since 1984.Apart from this.FINA world aquatics competitions are open to men since 16th 2015 championships in Kazan. There are other international and national competitions that are specifically open to men. In this activity one has to make sure that they do not touch the ground beneath the water and try making higher lifts. Synchronized swimming is governed by FINA that is Federation Internationale de Natation.
In this activity the swimmers need to perform two routines that include technical and free. The participants have to be fit and flexible. They have to maintain the synchronization and most of the time there is a theme given on which they have to perform. Synchronized swimming has been a part of many competition. The first competition was held in North America in Montreal in 1924 with Peg Sellar as the first champion. There are news that synchronized swimming will be a part of Olympics 2016 going to be held in Rio de Janero.After all these we should definitely consider synchronized swimming as a sport as just like other sports it too require hardship and efforts to succeed.
