South Asian Games 2016

The South Asian Game is a multi-sport event. This year it is the Xll South Asian Games that will take place from 5^th February to 16^th February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India. It was basically started in the year 1984 in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is a very big vent. A total of eight South Asian countries will participate namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.Along with this there will be a total of 23 sporting events as well. People from all over the world are invited to watch this Asian Games and support their country to win.

Around 2672 athletes will compete with each other in 226 events over 23 sports. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated this big event on 5^th February 2016.Now as far as the hosting of the game is concerned then it was originally decided to be hosted in 2012 in Kathmandu but later on was postponed to 2013 for Delhi. Then gain due to suspension of Indian Olympic Association it was postponed to late 2015.Now finally it was hosted on 5^th February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong.Next if we take a look at the logo and the mascot then on 19^th December 2015, Tikhor, the baby rhino was declared the official Mascot for 2016 South Asian games.Tikhor has been selected as the mascot because it carries a message of peace, progress and prosperity in the South Asian region. Hence with this message goes the logo of the South Asian games-“Play for peace, progress and prosperity”. Apart from this a national anthem has also been selected to represent this game. It is a famous Assamese song, ”Ei Prithibi Ek Krirangan”,by Bhupen Hazarika who is the Indian lyricist,musician,poet,singer and film maker from Assam.

This is a very big event that comprises of 226 events in 23 sports. This time around 758 medals are on offer in this game. Some of the finest sportsperson will participate in this game thereby displaying their inbuilt talent. These South Asian games give a fair chance or rather a platform to these young talents in order to show their sportsman spirit. Thus these South Asian games are a way big opportunity for such enthusiasts.
