South African Rodeos
Rodeo began as a form of working practices to herd cattle in
Mexico and Spain, and was only later turned into a fun event. Rodeo events are now
commonly found throughout the United States, especially during the summer.
There is one place in the world you would never expect to attend a rodeo, but
is actually quite popular — South Africa.
Blue Bull Country
A city by the name of Rayton in Blue Bull Country, South
Africa, holds a rodeo annually. South Africa may not have boarding high
schools that offer rodeo programs like in the United States, but there are
plenty of good riders in Blue Bull Country. Rayton has a population of 8,000
people and is heavily populated with farmers and agricultural workers.
Rodeo Events
Rodeo in South Africa has several events similar to what you
would find at a rodeo event at boarding high schools and other rodeo events. One
of the most important things about rodeo is the safety of the riders and the
animals. A member from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,
SPCA, attends the rodeos to ensure that rodeo animals are properly taken care
of. There are also veterinarians onsite so that if an animal is injured or sick,
it receives the proper help.
Rodeo Around the
Globe
Seeing rodeo events take off in places around the world is
great for the industry. It also helps boarding high schools that offer rodeo
programs, such as Wasatch Academy in Utah. Boarding high schools accommodate
youths from all around the world through various programs. Even if you are a
young student in South Africa involved in rodeos, you can find your place at a
high school that offers such programs to enhance your skills.
Rodeo isn’t just a typical American sport. Many people
around world participate and enjoy the wildly fun sport. It also shows that
there is a community of rodeo riders that help each other become better riders,
and enjoy one another’s company.
