In recent years as public chaos has become more common, chaos within the school system has seen a rise as well. Due to this rise, federal regulations have tightened and many faculty members, both in public and private boarding schools have taken safety training and courses.

The Department of Homeland Security has played a large role in the development of school safety regulations and as a parent it is important that you know what safety options are available for your child in their schooling, whether they attend one of the many public or private boarding schools across the country.

Common Regulations

The federal government seeks to regulate schools in order to make your child’s place of learning the safest it can be. Children attending private boarding schools are often afforded a higher quality of school environment but these federal regulations do not apply to just them.

The federal government seeks to regulate everything from indoor air quality to school discipline procedures. These regulations also help teachers and students cultivate safe, healthy and beneficial relationships while making sure the water being put in the school is safe for children to drink.

School lunches are often regulated as well and like many of the other regulations are often incentivized by government funding.

Preparedness Resources

Total safety does not stop with regulations, safety preparedness is also top of the federal government’s priorities, especially with the rising fear of school violence.

The Department of Homeland Security oversees FEMA, an organization which specializes in the training and education of educators in the realm of school safety. FEMA even has grants set up to help fund both public and private boarding schools so that they can purchase equipment and pay for all needed training.

This grant, along with several others, was established for the sole purpose of preparedness and peace of mind.
