Prepping your Child for a New Academic Session

by Janvi Ahuja Content Developer,SEO Consultant,
For most children, especially the young ones, exams are over and the new academic session is fast-approaching. Along with the excitement of entering a new class, many students also experience fear and anxiety. So as parents, is there something you could do to help put your child at ease? Of course! Little things can add up to make a great difference, and there are many little things you can do for your young ones to prep them up for a new academic session that will soon begin. Keep reading to know how:

1.Normalizing their schedule
The daily schedule of students undergoes many changes during holidays.  Many children even start dreading the thought of waking up early post-holidays. Hence, a few days before school begins, you can encourage your child to start normalizing his/her sleep cycle.

2.Talk it out
Every child is unique and while the outgoing ones can’t wait to get back to school, the shy ones often feel more anxious. Just being there for your child can make a lot of difference. Reminding him about the fun periods, interesting activities, picnics, and his favourite subjects and teachers can cheer him up. Also, motivating him to fight and overcome his fears by giving him another perspective can really encourage him.

3.Familiarizing your child with his immediate surroundings
A new session often results in shifting to a new class and sometimes a new building altogether. Students scared of being in unknown surroundings can be familiarized with their new place. You can walk him through the new building, the nearby washroom, the way in and out of the building, etc. to make him feel more secure.

4.Spending quality time
If your child studies in one of the boarding schools in Noida or elsewhere and has come home for vacations, shower him with your love and appreciation. However, instead of just spending greater number of hours, more important is to spend quality time with him, if even only for a few hours every day. It isn’t easy to study in a boarding, and hence constant encouragement coupled with lots of love is what parents should give to their children.

5.Go shopping together for school supplies
Many children love to go shopping for new school supplies. New books and notebooks, new uniform, new stationery etc. often excites young children. If this is the case with your child, go shopping with him and help ease out any worry he may have during such shopping trips.

The kind of teachers a school has also greatly impacts the mental well-being of students. To bring out the best in your child, it’s important that you ensure he enjoys learning under his teacher. Genesis Global School, one of the prestigious day-cum-residential schools in India has great faculty. Hence, always be assured of the quality of faculty before enrolling your child in any school. All the best to you and your child!
