Yeast infection is a condition that occurs when fungi, such as Candida, multiply at a rapid rate causing discomfort. The skin's surface as well as the mucosa is home to other microorganisms.

During cases wherein there is an imbalance in the body, these organisms start taking over the area by reproducing at an accelerated rate. This imbalance may be due to taking antibiotics or when the person's immune system is suppressed.

This infection is commonly caused by Candida albicans, which is present in the skin and mucosa. It can occur in different areas such as the mouth, esophagus, vagina, skin and the blood stream (rare but possibly fatal). Common causes of vaginal yeast infection include use of antibiotics that kills off lactobacillus which helps maintain pH in the vagina, which results in the overgrowth of the fungi.

Recent studies have supported the effectiveness of cinnamon as an antifungal. In the Journal of Traditional Medicine, a study used cinnamon oil mixed with pogostemon oil to observe how Candida albicans, react to this treatment. The experiment utilized a mixture of the oils at different concentrations for each strain. The observed effect of the treatment was a rapid destruction of the fungi cells.

The organelles of the cells hollowed out, killing it from the inside. Within 48-72 hours, all that was left of the cells were empty cytoplasms. They also conducted the study on a group of 60 people who had intestinal candidiasis. These individuals were given capsules of the same mixture of cinnamon oil and pogostemon oil. The results marked a significant antifungal effect of both oils in all strains of Candida.

Taking cinnamon for yeast infection can be done safely. Cinnamon Tea (Andaman Cinnamon) helps! You can use the Cinnamon Black Tea infusion as a daily regimen to prevent recurrence of infection. Black tea contains polyphenols that also adds an antifungal effect to the beverage, which makes it a great addition to your morning routine. Just remember to have rest days each week to avoid toxicity. Another way of taking cinnamon minus the black tea, is by boiling about two cups of water and two cinnamon sticks (1 and 1/ 2 tsp of ground cinnamon) for about 15 minutes or until the water turns light to deep brown. But you need to take care that the cinnamon used should be organically grown. Andaman Plantations, grows cinnamon organically in its lands in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
