Cinnamon Helps Control Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Cinnamon a widely used spice for many purposes, can now control IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects the large intestines. It is often marked by bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation and abdominal cramps. Although it can be painful and quite uncomfortable, it can be managed through lifestyle and diet.
Causes for IBS may be many. There is no specific cause as such. There seems to be poor signal coordination between the nerves and the muscles of the large intestines which causes it to either not contract properly (constipation) or have excessive motility (diarrhea). There are many possible triggers for this particular condition such as -
Food: Different people have different food triggers. It is always best to determine what food sets the condition off. A food diary is a great way of keeping track. There are also commonly reported irritants such as dairy, spices, fats, fruits, alcohol and carbonated drinks.
Stress: This often aggravates the symptoms of IBS.
Hormones: This condition occurs more in females than in males, so it is believed that hormones have some effect on the occurrence of IBS.
Overrun of bad bacteria: When there is an overrun of bad bacteria in the gut, it can trigger IBS. This can be prevented by regular intake of probiotics.
Though the above conditions can trigger IBS but there of course are the solutions as well. Cinnamon the nature’s product come as a remedy to IBS. A study was conducted to observe the effects of natural remedies on symptoms of IBS. The goal was to improve bowel movements and habits. It utilized two different mixtures of natural remedies. One was made with dried powdered slippery elm bark and cinnamon. The results revealed that the mixtures were effective in relieving the symptoms of IBS.
Although the study showed that cinnamon can help with alleviating the symptoms, but it might be a possible trigger for IBS for some people, as well. So it might be a good idea to try it out first before using it as a treatment. Not everyone reacts to potential triggers, it is always best to note your own reactions.
Cinnamon helps relieve the symptoms of IBS, such as bloating, gas and abdominal cramps. One can use it as cinnamon tea. You can use cinnamon tea to alleviate the symptoms as well as rehydrate. Boil two cinnamon sticks in two cups of water. Add 1/ 4 teaspoon of tea leaves and a bit of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it boil for 15 minutes. Let it cool, and take sips throughout the day. This can surely help in controlling IBS.
