Neewer® Carbon Fiber 24"/60cm Handheld Stabilizer top quality build, however there is room for some improvement,

The 'Carbon Fiber 24"/60cm Handheld Stabilizer' by Neewer is a more affordable alternative to the other premium models available on the market from other brands.

Initial impressions were very positive as the build quality really did feel to a very high standard. It comes with two thick sized weights, four medium sized weights, a carry bag and a DVD to guide you through the set-up process.

It's important to note that it doesn't matter how much money you spend on a stabilizer such as this one or a more expensive model, it requires a lot of patience due to the precise adjustments that need to be made to ensure total balance.

The DVD included starts with Chinese subtitles however if you skip the first part, there's then an English subtitled version of the video. Subtitles did help to a certain extent, however for me, the visuals were clear enough. I also checked a couple of videos available online to see whether there were other ways that would be better for set-up; one suggested using a photography light stand to mount the handle on top for a quicker set-up.

Setting up the stabilizer requires various adjustments such as the amount of weight attached, the length of the pole, how far forward/back the camera is and how much it is to one side. These precise adjustments could have been easier to do if:
1) Spirit levels were on the unit.
2) Measurements were printed on ALL adjustment points. The only measurements I saw was on the part that slides the camera back and forth. Not only would this have been useful at the time, but it would be handy to mark down all measurements for future reference when using that set-up.
3) Weights were better proportioned. They could have cut two out of the four medium sized weights in half, allowing for more precise adjustments with four smaller sized weights.

After a couple of hours setting the stabilizer up with my Sony A6000 & 35mm lens, I had achieved almost perfect balance; this is okay for certain movements, but not all. This resulted in some sway when moving around which is noticeable in the video, what a shame. I honestly believe if there were a smaller/lighter weight available, it would have made the balance just right. That said, it is possible for the unit to be perfectly balanced with other set-ups as proved on the included DVD.

For now, I can get around it by putting my hand in the way to stop the stabilizer from swinging, but I shouldn't be having to do that.

On a positive note, the stabilizer has decent grip on the handle and the gimbal feature is absolutely superb, with no noticeable friction at all! It's incredibly smooth.

If you want to take a chance, then this unit may be perfect for your set-up to which you would have got a great deal considering its top build quality, but please do bare in mind that with the lack of fine adjustments, it may also not go in your favour with your set-up.

✔ Pros:
✓ Comfortable grip.
✓ Extremely high-quality build.
✓ Gimbal system is incredibly smooth.
✓ Included DVD helped the set-up process.

✖ Cons:
✘ No spirit level & not enough measurement markings on the adjustable parts.
✘ Weights proportions could have been better.
