WhatsApp has 800 million users all over the world; knowing this fact, hackers have decided to misuse the name of the brand. The latest ploy which scam artists have come up with to con WhatsApp users is is to carry out a mass spam email campaign.

Scam artists are using the WhatsApp name which users trust and love, as a way to enter your device and steal important credentials.  They are sending hoax e-mails pretending to be from WhatsApp and are attempting to install malware on your device.  Once you click on the link attached you can:

  • Land on another website where you’re asked to take a survey on behalf of WhatsApp. The survey forces you to download unknown applications and software that might contain malware.
  • Or, the link might contain malicious content which gets downloaded without letting you know and steals your online credentials.

This iYogi scam alert highlights the various tactics which are being used to infect your device by masquerading  as WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Admin:

  • The swindlers are masking themselves as WhatsApp admin and are sending fake e-mails to trick you into clicking on the links attached in the email. Read More..
