As summer begins to draw to a close everyone is in the vacation mood. According American Automobile Association (AAA) Travel, an estimated 34.7 million Americans will travel this holiday weekend. With this, criminals and hackers too have activated themselves to cash in the name of vacation scams.

If you are also planning to book an end of summer getaway this Labor Day weekend, here are some important guidelines shared by iYogi to keep in mind before you start scouring the web for last-minute bargains and sorting your departure details.

While you plan your trip

While you’re busy finalizing the best online vacation deal, don’t forget to stay vigilant of fake vacation offers. Scammers often hijack legitimate listings for rental properties and impersonate themselves as legitimate contact persons for fake postings. Their goal is to get a person to pay a large security deposit or the full rental amount up front.

  • If a deal seems to be too good to be true than it probably isn’t. Verify the deal from legitimate sources.
  • Always use legitimate websites to book your vacation. Always check out the company with the BBB.
  • Always try to pay via credit card; never wire money for vacation rentals. Click to know more.
