The automotive industry is embracing a massive change where various tech giants are trying their best to enter this industry with their autonomous cars. All the leading companies are geared up to come with their electric cars. Alphabet Inc. and Apple Inc. is also one of those companies that seeks to embrace this change. According to a research note by Morgan Stanley, it has been deduced that Apple and Google have the potential to take the lead in the times to come in the electric car fraternity. Katy Hubert, the analyst at Morgan Stanley claims that both the companies have a lot of expertise in offering "cameras, sensors, batteries, and displays" when it comes to smartphones. So now these companies are potentially eyeing the autonomous car and electric car market that has a lot of growth potential in the upcoming times. A shift has been observed in the industry where big companies are now constantly integrating into conventional cars. This on par with their future plans. Hubert further adds, "We see the opportunity for technology vendors, including Google and Apple, to dominate." Since the technology is in its infancy stage, the word dominate can be deciphered with multiple meanings. It is not really clear whether Hubert was talking about the electric car fraternity as a whole or she was merely focusing on human machine interfaces and infotainment systems. At this point of time it is not really clear if both the companies are coming up with full fledged cars or infotainment systems. As per an article from USA Today that was published during the start of 2015, Apple is reportedly working on its electric car namely “Project Titan” which might not be a complete automobile. The article stated, "Don't expect a full-fledged car,” however, it can be a “dashboard or some other sort of embedded model." It is common observation that the traditional automakers consider the integration of smartphones in vehicles extremely vital. These companies are now more reliant on the key players in the market instead of coming up with their own technology. Thus Apple Carplay and Google’s Android Auto has become their favorite. The observation by Hubert is not wrong since Apple and Google might be able to manufacture better cars around their smartphones than the automotive giant’s have been successful in doing regarding building phones in their cars. Thus in the future what happens is a different story but for now the future of tech giant seems secure in the automotive sector.
