Apple Employee Arrested For Scam
Apple employee Rubin Profit involved in illegal activities.An internal investigation was conducted at Apple Inc. where it was deduced that one of the tech behemoths employees was arrested for various crimes that encompasses “grand larceny”. As per NBC Channel 4 news, the employee has now been accused and charged for various illegal activities in which he has been involved in prepaid credit; recode debit along with a scam of Apple Store gift cards that worth around $997,000.
Rubin Profit who is a young employee at the company’s store was working at their Queens Center Mall outlet from where he practiced illegal activities. As per the allegation, Mr. Rubin Profit used American Express Company and Visa Inc. credit, debit and prepaid and gift card to purchase the Apple gift cards. Then later he admitted that the gift cards were sold to third parties at very cheap rates. So far the parties who have purchased these cards have not been revealed.
Mr. Profit association with AAPL Stores is of almost two years where he has been serving as an employee in retail since FY13. He was then moved to the outlet at Elmhurst Mall which became operational in July. So this was the time where he started to get involved in illegal activities. It is said that the individual was involved in corrupt activities since he started his job at Apple but authorities at this point claim that the unusual activities were carried out from August and October.
Apple was finally successful in catching the root cause of the misery when they started to receive charge back notifications for the fraud gift cards that had been purchased and the circulated amongst third parties. When anomalies were noted, the company initiated the investigation to overcome the loopholes.
Richard Brown who is the District Attorney of Queens stated, “The defendant is accused of using his tech skills to rig the values on both American Express and Visa gift cards and then using them to purchase gift cards from his employer—The Apple Store.”
According to Brown, the practices Mr. Rubin Profit has been involved are malicious despite he was a reverend employee of the company who not only worked as a sales representative but also offered his services as a tech support.
As of now, the convict has been alleged for various charges that encompasses “first degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree grand larceny, and third degree criminal possession of stolen property.”
