Educating the Building Blocks of Our Nation

by Ratul Puri Marketing Consultant

“The first five years have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out.”

The statement- “Children are the future of the nation” stops making sense when in a developing country like India, over 3 million children are living on streets or working as bonded laborers and are detached from getting education which is their fundamental right. Despite having a national policy for compulsory primary education, only 50% of children have access to education, which is a shameful thing for our country.

Going with thorough research on education in India, the education research foundation has understood that it is the time to take collective as well as individual responsibility to remedy the present situation for a better and prospering nation.

Importance of quality education
It is critical to emphasize the “quality” of human capital and children education foundation in India has identified that while the number of years of schooling is important, so is the cognitive ability gained from those years. Students spending over twelve years in a school might not gain significant improvements in productivity if the quality of their education is poor.

Children with quality education in the early years of their life get a better start towards their quality life. The education research foundation also lays importance on the involvement of teachers and other school activities in building better career.
  • Teachers- they need to have a collaborative and supportive system that helps the students to grow as professionals and allows them time to inculcate love for education and learning.
  • Assessments- ask educators and policymakers to question if assessments are being used for the right reasons. Assessments can be opportunities to see where children can be helped in or to identify talents, not just a score to represent that child.
  • Thinking ability- quality education leads to critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Communication- an effective communication and collaborative working is gained through quality education.

So, quality education holds a vital importance for the economic development of a nation.

This article states the importance of quality education in building a nation and it also shows us that the children education foundation in India are creating more equitable learning system where all children and students benefit from education and are empowered to learn for themselves.
