There are various boarding high schools in the nation that offer some of the best programs available to students. When a student attends a boarding school, there are some schools that require a uniform policy that students must follow. Here are some reasons to reconsider conformity and find the best boarding school for you.

First and foremost, uniforms can affect a student’s self-esteem. Young students like to express themselves based on the way they dress and look. Sometimes students feel embarrassed how they look amongst their peers and can sometimes struggle academically because of it. A research study from Arizona State University showed that students who aren’t required to wear a uniform have better views of self-image and are able to increase their social skills.

Uniforms are expensive. Every year, students are required to purchase a new uniform because schools will make minor changes that all students are required to wear. Boarding high schools make an average of 250 dollars per student a year on uniforms. If your uniform gets torn or ripped, boarding schools will not let you walk around in such conditions, they will make you spend another 250 dollars to get a new uniform set.

Another reason why you should avoid a school that requires uniforms, they encourage conformity and take away from personality. While it is important to comply with rules, research has shown that students tend to lose some of their personality and could ultimately affect their intuitive thinking. Uniforms are boring, boarding high schools always choose a dark pattern that doesn’t stick out and makes the school environment bland.

Kids don’t like them and parents don’t like them, so why deal with them? Various polls have shown that the majority of parents hate to purchase uniforms every year and students hate wearing them. It is an overall win-win situation for boarding high schools to get rid of uniforms. Parents will be happier with the institution, students can excel in their individual studies and the boarding high schools can continue to offer great programs to various students.

There have been multiple studies and research findings that prove that uniforms provide absolutely no benefit to a student’s education at a boarding school. Schools should spend less time worrying about students all trying to be the same and encourage them to become different, embrace their personality and wear whatever appropriate clothing they would like. Students will more than likely embrace their studies and increase their social skills with their peers.
