Being a Supportive Husband During the IVF Process

by Joanne P. Health Enthusiast
IVF is a stressful time for a couple, not just physically, but emotionally as well, and the husband must support his wife through this emotionally challenging time. A lot is going on in a woman's body during the IVF cycle. Her hormones are all over the place, she's bloated, constantly tired, and on top of all that, she's carrying life inside her. What a wife needs most from her husband is patience and empathy for what she's going through.

Another option couples have to unload their stress and bring up their concerns is to go to fertility counseling in Davao. Professional help may come in handy when the couple doesn't see eye to eye but wants to improve things between them.

Remind her that she's not alone

Although you may not be the one carrying the baby, you need to remind your wife that she's not alone in this journey. Assure her that you will be there every step of the way until you've reached your destination.

The last thing a wife wants is to feel like she's going through the IVF process and pregnancy on her own; it can feel incredibly isolating at times. It would help if you accompanied her to every single doctor's appointment, even if it's just a simple checkup.

Help out with the housework

Take some time off her hands by offering to help with the cleaning. One of the factors that cause an IVF cycle to fail is if the woman undergoes substantial amounts of stress. Offer to do the dishes every other night or sweep the floor if you notice that she's had a long day. It may seem small, but you won't realize just how much this will help with her mood and stress levels.

Don't eat what she can't eat in front of her

Or better yet, make the switch to a healthy lifestyle with her. There are plenty of things a pregnant woman cannot eat or drink. Sushi is off the table, so is every form of soft cheese, and forget your Saturday wine nights because alcohol is not an option anymore. The worst part is that they crave food they can't have. Be a little more considerate by passing up on the sashimi for the time being.

Find ways for her to relax

Even if you don't want to go to the yoga class, as Nike says, Just do it! First of all, yoga benefits everyone. Second, it helps her unwind, which in turn helps the IVF process work better. Or if after a long day of work, she asks you to rub her feet, then rub her feet. Swollen feet is one of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, and it's not the most comfortable thing in the world.
