Adults Night Out: Phoenix Parents Can Enjoy the Museum Too
When
people think of science museums, they often associate them with
children learning about the way the world works, be it learning about
gravity, magnets or even space exploration. However, the Arizona
Science Museum, perfectly located in the middle of downtown Phoenix real estate,
has a program that is geared toward adults, including the very parents
of those Phoenix area children who learn science from the museum. The Arizona Science Center Adults Night Out program is held on a monthly basis and covers a very different and interesting topic with each session. Adults are told to leave the children at home, which of course gives parents the chance to focus on what they are learning and enjoy themselves, without worrying about whether their child is bored, tired or hungry.
The Arizona Science Center website offers updated information about upcoming programs. From airports to the history of the violin and how it has changed over time, no topic is left uncovered by this great program.
Although it varies, many of the lectures include the opportunity to also see a movie in the museum’s beautiful IMAX Theater, such as Ultimate Wave Tahiti, an amazing look at surfing in Tahiti in a way that only an IMAX film can truly offer. Participants also typically are given a chance to explore the museum at an hour when all the kids have gone home and things are relatively calm. This includes the more than 300 hands-on exhibits that are found at the museum. Often when parents attend a museum like this with their children, they let the kids do all the exploring and hands-on work, but it is fun for the parents too, something that they will discover quickly when they try out the various exhibits.
Most of the lectures are free, but there is a cost for attending the IMAX movies. The museum is also working to come up with new and unique programs to keep people interested. From discussions about today’s hottest topics to many of the aspects the exhibits are designed to cover, this science museum isn’t just focused on the kids.
The Arizona Science Center is located right in downtown Phoenix, at 600 East Washington Street, a perfect location accessible from most Phoenix homes. There is ample parking available at any of the Heritage and Science Park garages. For more information visit the website listed above or call 602-716-2000.
