Fashionistas will marvel at Ann Taylor’s Wardrobe at Phoenix Art Museum
Scottsdale and Phoenix real estate is certainly well known for some serious shopping and style. Where to go when you just cannot get enough of fashion and style? Come by the Phoenix Art Museum through May 29, 2011 for a close up look at the wardrobe of fashion icon Ann Taylor. The exhibit is entitled “Fashion Independent” and celebrates the singular, independent woman who skied for the U.S. Olympic team in the 1930s and taught pilots how to fly planes during WWII. There’s something for everyone in this exhibit that spotlights the incredible life of one of America’s top women designers.
Taylor, whose passing in 2007 left a hole in the heart of all fashion mavens, was best known for her tasteful style. Her brand, Ann Taylor, has been featured in all the trendiest publications including Vogue, Town and Country and Harper’s. But ladies who love to wear her clothes love her for her effortless simplicity and for allowing the modern woman to dress stylishly without the fuss.
The museum will display over 60 of Taylor’s outfits complete with accessories. Taylor designed many of the pieces herself and the works of fashion icons Givency, Balenciaga and Charles James, among others, are also included. The collection reflects her love of being outdoors and includes custom riding habits, as well as sporting and shooting outfits. Her taste in refined ensembles for indoor wear is reflected in the many gowns and dresses shown as well. Thanks to the unselfish donation by Vernon Taylor Jr. and the Taylor family, the exhibit has been selected as one of the top 100 art museum gifts.
Those who come will be able to view not only the marvelous outfits but also a documentary by David Boatman, the celebrated film maker. There will also be a selection of photos of Taylor taken by notable photographers such as Bob Richardson.
The exhibit runs through the end of May 2011 at the The Phoenix Art Museum.
