Recently, the Phoenix suburb of Ahwatukee experienced the largest home sale in over a year. In this tough economy and Phoenix real estate market, it is great to see some good news out there. A beautiful 6,400-square-foot home with five bedrooms and seven bathrooms located in the Ahwatukee Custom Estates Subdivision sold for $1,500,000 in June, 2010. The home has a resort-style setting, sits on just under three quarters of an acre and offers incredible mountain and city light views. The home was recently remodeled and features a theater room, pebble-finish pool, waterfall, grotto hot tub, separate guest quarters, solid oak cabinetry, 30-foot ceilings blending into an artistic ?winding stairway,? plus a four-car garage. Today, there are 13 homes listed in the Multiple Listings Service (MLS) priced at over one million dollars in the Ahwatukee area.

Because Ahwatukee is nestled so closely to the surrounding mountains, it gives the feel of an independent city. Although many believe that it is separate from Phoenix, Ahwatukee is actually one of 15 designated urban villages within the city. Ahwatukee is bound by I-10 to the east along with the cities of Chandler and Tempe; to the north is South Mountain and the Gila River Indian Reservation is to the west and south. The people who live in Ahwatukee are very proud of where they are from and help add to the charm of this great community.

According to Money Magazine, Ahwatukee is recognized as one of America?s ?Best Places to Live?. The 35.8-square-mile village currently has a population of approximately 88,500 residents with an average household income of $96,700. The majority of its residents are college educated and between the ages of 25-48. Ahwatukee is a fairly new development that was started in1971 when development companies bought large tracks of land next to South Mountain for future planned communities. Ahwatukee is now one of the fastest-growing areas in the Valley. Ahwatukee is expanding so rapidly that it now even has its own internal bus system that navigates through the area.

Residents of Ahwatukee seldom have to leave the area for anything because Ahwatukee offers fine shops, boutiques, fabulous restaurants, a movie theater megaplex, country clubs and public recreation centers. Ahwatukee also boasts large department stores, abundant grocers, health food outlets, several general retail outlets and specialty stores. If you enjoy the outdoors, South Mountain State Park is the largest city-owned park in the country. The picturesque setting is perfect for hiking, biking or horseback riding.
