Hi
Stranger!
I want you to join my business and please upgrade! I do not tell you who I am and what
my business is about, only that you can earn loads of money. Of course the best is to
upgrade!

Still this is the approach I see on many profiles, rev pages and blogs. Sadly this is also often the approach after people are accepted as a new contact thus making a lousy first impression.
Many members join, paste their opportunity on their profile and spend a lot
of time posting links and/or earning credits/points/tokens what ever to post campaigns or adverts. And then wonder why few join and why the few
that joined (mostly only to earn credits) do nothing.
This approach does not work in real life and it does not work in online marketing
either.
People follow people. You will be surprised how many will follow you if you engage and contribute in a positive way. I.e. posting interesting/helpful articles, comment in a way that your comment ads value and share good stuff from others. Think about it, would you join an opportunity of someone you trust and value for his/her expertise or from a stranger with a blank profile? This being said I would like to point out that you should ALWAYS do due diligence, even if the opportunity is from your best friend. Because even your best friend can make a misjudgment.

When you are new on any social network you should give people the time to get to know you.
Be helpful by giving tips on issues you know something about. At least you
should know enough about the products/services you advertise to answer
questions. If you do this people will check out your profile or signature link. So make sure your profile is the best it can be on any network.
My recommendations for social media business networks is Apsense and the networks Facebook, Linked In and Twitter.

When you have built yourself an online presence and you have found a good opportunity to promote it is time to start adverting your opportunity or business. Remember the best advertising is getting yourself a killer profile on the social business sites you are on. Don't join to many at the same time. Better to have only 2 or 3 where you are active than 20 where you seldom log in and engage.
Joining a co-op can save you a lot of time and money for your advertising. I recommend The Marketers Co-op that has plans for every budget and need. It has a affiliate program that is free to join.
Another program I can recommend is AdsActly. It has an advertising co-op but also offers affordable hosting plans with extras like an autoresponder, conference rooms and more. It is most important to brand your company with its own (paid) domain. Read here why.
You can also post ads for free on AdsActly and earn from their affiliate program.

Wow, This is a good article and I agree with you Paula. I call it "SALES PITCH REGURGITATION" I think it is the newbies that follow their upline, and that follow their upline etc... without any good training. I use to do the same until I came across a well developed ebook that educated me in marketing. JOIN ME! JOIN ME! JOIN ME! Turns me off and cause me to report abuse in a heart beat. Thank you!

It is so true we offer help in learning how to promote the business, write reviews giving them the best programs offer to answer questions, give training (that they rarely attend), even give on line chat and conference access to answer any questions they have. But the few that grasp the idea of learning and putting forth consistent effort are a joy to celebrate with for when they succeed we do also and their success is our reward for our own efforts.

Thanks Paula, you always come up with very basic points which is vital for any successful business and we always forget to apply in our business and still wondering for reasons of our failure.

You do not need a pocket full of money & lots of computer knowledge when you pick the right program. There are a lot resources for traffic which are free.

Very good info Paula...I have never understood the ones who have all the hype & promises to them, I have fallen prey a few times before and no they dont work! I am however computer challenged & realy dont have the time to learn alot of new stuff...I have 2 business's that can be worked from home but have no clue what to do to build them online if you dont have a pocket full of money & lots of computer knowledge.

I don't know html is no longer an excuse. There are plenty services, even free ones, where you build sites without any knowledge of html

Good one Rod, that first two mentioned in the denial syndrome Spawns from the Gurus as well.
They keep telling people "You Don't need a website", "You Don't have know HTML", and the best one "You don't need a PRODUCT".
The 3rd reason is people that don't yet know what it takes to be an Entrepreneur.

The best way to make money is to turn off the Guru Channel and be your own best sponsor. It's not what a sponsor can do for you, it's what you are willing to do for yourself.
1. Make your own mouse trap ( domain / website )
2. Host your own programs on your website
3. Monetize with contextual ads
Denial syndrome:
I don't need a website, the company gives me one.
I don't know how to do html
I don't have time ( to busy watching Tv, to busy playing games,to busy clicking ads, to busy

Face to face is difficult for me since not so many Dutch are active in programs outside The Netherlands

I often tell people most online businesses are built offline by promoting offline to real people. Giving out post cards and flyers are un beatable.
Nothing comes close to dealing people face to face. Today whether on a soical network or thru e-mail marketing those people still looking to build trust with you!

I agree, i have said this before. I will rather get by with a small group of referrals in my downline that actually puts the effort into what we are trying to achieve, than having thousands join just to move to the next program next week because they haven't made money yet.

@Dawie I know Dawie but i can't help myself trying. I won't get so many followers with this posts like the Gurus promising the unreachable moon but the few i get will be the ones with common sense.

Isn't that a FACT. Seems to me the majority are just to stubborn in their Guru Trained tactics and no matter how hard we try help them, they simply don't want our help.
